A Model for Melt‐Preferred Orientation and Permeabilities in Deformed Partially Molten Peridotites

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems
In a deforming partially molten rock, melt concentrates into a grain‐scale melt pocket aligned at a preferred orientation (melt‐preferred orientation, or MPO).

Apparatus ad method for quiescent containerless processing of high temperature metals and alloys in low gravity [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
The electron bombardment furnace consists of two confinement grid sections which may be moved and separated from each other. Inside the bombardment furnace, a tungsten element is enclosed.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Repacking Accelerates High‐Silica Melts Extraction: Insights From Microstructural Record and Numerical Modeling

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Repacking enhances crystal mush permeability, accelerating melt extraction. However, identifying microstructural records of repacking is challenging, creating a gap in quantifying its effect on magmatic reservoirs. We identified extracted melt (rhyolite)

Numerical modelling of magma dynamics coupled to tectonic deformation of lithosphere and crust [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Many unresolved questions in geodynamics revolve around the physical behaviour of the two-phase system of a silicate melt percolating through and interacting with a tectonically deforming host rock.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Physics-guided spatiotemporal approach for melt pool size prediction in laser powder bed fusion

open access: yesVirtual and Physical Prototyping
This study first proposes a physics-guided spatiotemporal graph. The melt pool temporal feature nodes and spatial feature nodes are extracted from melt pool images based on spatiotemporal correlations. These feature points are treated as graph nodes, and

Fabrication of Aluminum Alloy with Open-Channel and Columnar Structures through a Ceramic Fiber Template Method

open access: yesMetals, 2023
Aluminum alloys with open-channel and columnar structures were fabricated by casting the melt of aluminum alloys using a ceramic fiber template method. Stainless steel plates or wires coated with ceramic fibers impregnated by polyvinyl alcohol were used ...

Petrology of some oceanic island basalts: PRIMELT2.XLS software for primary magma calculation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
PRIMELT2.XLS software is introduced for calculating primary magma composition and mantle potential temperature (TP) from an observed lava composition. It is an upgrade over a previous version in that it includes garnet peridotite melting and it detects ...

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.
