The fidelity of melt inclusions as records of melt composition
Contributions to Mineralogy and Petrology, 2008A series of experiments created melt inclusions in plagioclase and pyroxene crystals grown from a basaltic melt at 1,150°C, 1.0 GPa to investigate diffusive fractionation during melt inclusion formation; additionally, P diffusion in a basaltic melt was measured at 1.0 GPa.

Initiation of melting beneath the Oslo rift: a melt inclusion perspective
Chemical Geology, 2002Abstract This study of the most primitive magmas in the Permo–Carboniferous Oslo magmatic system aims at understanding the initial phases of magmatism in a rift-related environment. Primary melt inclusions are investigated from two compositional types of pyroxene: Cr-diopside and Ti-augite, found within the alkaline Skien basalts, southern Norway ...

“Nanogranite” and glassy inclusions: The anatectic melt in migmatites and granulites
Geology, 2009Using as a case study a granulite from the Kerala Khondalite Belt, India, we show that a former anatectic melt can be preserved as tiny (

On the Measurement of Inclusions in Copper-Based Melts
Canadian Metallurgical Quarterly, 1989AbstractAn Electric Sensing Zone (E.S.Z.) technique for the direct measurement of the number density and size distribution of inclusions in molten metals, with particular reference to copper and copper-beryllium alloys is described. In the probe assembly, the sensing zone is an orifice set in the lower end of a quartz tube.

Melting and solidification of bismuth inclusions in aluminium
Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 1995Supercooling of crystalline bismuth inclusions in aluminium crystals has been observed and studied with different techniques: X-ray diffraction, in situ Rutherford backscattering/channelling spectrometry and transmission electron microscopy. The results of the measurements with different experimental methods (and on different samples) agree remarkably ...

Melt Inclusions in Accessory Zircon
Microscopy TodayAbstract Melt inclusions in zircon refer to tiny pockets of molten rock (magma) that become trapped within the crystal as it forms. These structures provide valuable information about the conditions and composition of the magma at the time of zircon’s formation.

Melt inclusions are widely believed to represent melts from which host crystals grew. Melt inclusions represent melt adjacent to growing crystals, where compositional gradients exist due to preferential incorporation or exclusion of components by the crystallizing mineral.

Melting of inclusions with variable vacancy contents
Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 1991The development of a model considered earlier, which deals with the melting of microinclusions in an elastic matrix, is proposed. Apart from perfect inclusions totally filling the appropriate cavities, inclusions with one atomic vacancy in the solid state are also described.

Melt inclusions at MT. Edixon (Antarctica)
2020The recovery of melt inclusions (MI) in peritectic phases of metamorphic rocks demonstrates their anatectic origin even in the absence of other textural or field evidences, and gives the opportunity to retrieve the chemical composition of primary melts and infer melt entrapment conditions.
