Journal of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing, 1999
A description of the author's psychiatric breakdown is offered, and a discussion of how such wounded experiences can help in mental health work. Wounded healers are currently under attack in the National Health Service in the UK, following the Allitt affair.

Melting and melt structure at high pressures
AIP Conference Proceedings, 1994By performing simulations of clusters of MgO using a non‐empirical potential we investigate the fundamental physics of melting, the effects of pressure, melt and crystal structure, and themodynamic properties along the melting curve from zero pressure to 300 GPa. We find the surprising result that melting occurs when r.m.s.

The surface instabilities of copper metal are studied by computing the quasiharmonic free energy of (100), (110), and (111) surfaces within the slab model. We find that a loose-packed surface would melt prior to a close-packed one if contractive surface relaxations are neglected.

Melting and melt segregation processes controlling granitic melt composition
American MineralogistAbstract Several important processes in the petrogenesis of granite are still debated due to a poor understanding of complex interactions between minerals during the melting and melt segregation processes. To promote an improved understanding of the mineral-melt relationships, we present a systematic petrographic and geochemical analysis

Functionalization of polyolefins in the melt
2007Polyolefins with a controlled amount of functional groups can be obtained either by catalytic copolymerization of suitable monomers or by chemical modification of the obtained macromolecules by a free radical reaction in bulk. This paper describes the main aspects of the latter method which is at present the one more extensively used. Thus examples are

The measurement of melt flow and melt stability
Polymer Engineering & Science, 1974AbstractThe melt flow of a plastic as measured by the standard method (ASTM D‐1238) is at a high enough stress so that the flow is non‐Newtonian. If the die in the plastometer is replaced by a nonstandard, tapered die of large orifice, a lower stress can be used and the flows are shown to be comparable to Newtonian viscosities measured in a cone and ...

Element partitioning between minerals and melt, melt composition, and melt structure
Chemical Geology, 2004Abstract Mineral/melt trace element partition coefficients, D i mineral/melt (=concentration ratio, mineral/melt), can vary by up to two orders of magnitude in the melt composition range of natural magmatic liquids. As most geochemically interesting minor and trace elements are network-modifiers in silicate melts, one would expect, as observed,
