Iceberg properties and distributions in three Greenlandic fjords using satellite imagery
Icebergs calved from tidewater glaciers represent about one third to one half of the freshwater flux from the Greenland ice sheet to the surrounding ocean. Using multiple satellite datasets, we quantify the first fjord-wide distributions of iceberg sizes

Cryospheric water regime by its functions and services in China
The terrestrial cryosphere functions to provide critical freshwater and serve societies and ecosystems, driving nature's contributions to people (NCP). This becomes increasingly important for the oasis areas in Northwest China.

Disposition Model for Permafrost Degradation in Mountainous Regions
ABSTRACT Permafrost is a widespread thermal phenomenon in Arctic and high mountain regions that, in combination with steep terrain, exerts a key control on slope stability. Its degradation in response to climatic warming can modify the likelihood and timing of rockfall, debris flow and related mass movements. Robust information on the current state and

ABSTRACT The McMurdo Dry Valleys, the largest ice‐free region in Antarctica, are home to a cold‐desert hydrologic system of glaciers, snowbanks, streams, and lakes. Freshwater is also stored as dead glacial ice, which is poorly constrained in terms of ion concentrations and interactions with both in situ and overlying sediments.

Moss-covered cobbles and boulders mark a dry channel that was once the path of a glacial meltwater stream. Evidence of former glacial meltwater channels is plentiful in the Ellis Pond quadrangle, with many paths revealed by lidar topographic data ...

ABSTRACT Pingos are large mounds with cores formed of intrusive ice that form in periglacial landscapes. These ice structures can form in regions of discontinuous permafrost, commonly as hydraulic or open‐system pingos, or in locations of continuous permafrost, commonly as hydrostatic or closed‐system pingos.

Glacial meltwater and sea ice meltwater in the Prydz Bay, Antarctica
Measurements of deltaD and salinity were carried out in the Prydz Bay during two Antarctic cruises, the 13th and the 14th Chinese National Antarctic Research expeditions (CHINARE). Mass balance calculations based on deltaD and salinity showed that during

ABSTRACT Understanding fine‐scale surface changes is crucial for quantifying ecosystem dynamics and detecting landscape changes. Palsas, comparably small peatland elevations with an ice‐rich permafrost core, undergo natural cycles of growth and degradation. They can also serve as indicators of climate change in subarctic regions. Because they typically

Ice sheets as a significant source of highly reactive nanoparticulate iron to the oceans
The Greenland and Antarctic Ice Sheets cover ~\n10% of global land surface, but are rarely considered as active components of the global iron cycle. The ocean waters around both ice sheets harbour highly productive coastal ecosystems, many of which are ...

The presence and storage of meltwater on Antarctic ice shelves has implications for ice-shelf stability and collapse, while meltwater on grounded tributary glaciers, if able to access the bed, could affect their dynamics.
