Measuring biodiversity with sound: How effective are acoustic indices for quantifying biodiversity in a tropical dry forest?

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 6, Issue 6, June 2024.
We assessed the effectiveness of acoustic indices for monitoring biodiversity in an underrepresented biome in ecoacoustic literature—the tropical dry forests in Central India. We found that, in our study region, the indices were limited in their capacity to measure avian species richness, which we used to represent overall biodiversity.

Passive acoustic data yields insights into bird vocalization behavior associated with invasive shrub removal

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 56, Issue 3, May 2024.
Passive acoustic monitoring has revolutionized conservation technology, allowing for rapid monitoring of ecosystems and species. This study quantified the species‐level response to removing Lantana camara in Central India's tropical dry forest using acoustic by‐catch data, highlighting the importance of understanding the species‐level impacts of ...

Comparative mortality levels among selected species of captive animals [PDF]

open access: yes
We present life tables by single year of age and sex for groups of animals and for 42 individual mostly mammalian species. Data are derived from the International Species Information System. The survivorship of most of these species has never been mapped

Sloth Bear Attacks on Humans in Central India: Implications for Species Conservation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Conflicts with wild animals are increasing as human populations grow and related anthropogenic activities encroach into wildlife habitats. A good example of this situation is the increase in conflicts between humans and sloth bears (Melursus ursinus) in ...

Development of criteria suitable for machine learning based on morphological hierarchical trees [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The goal of this work is to study image criteria to be assigned to morphological trees such as Max/Mintree, Binary Partition Trees or similar representations to be able to classify the tree node and to identify the presence of object of interest in the ...

Mammalian fauna of Rajaji National Park, India: a review on ecological observations and checklist [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Rajaji National Park, in the Gangetic Plains biogeographic zone, has a diverse and biogeographically important mammalian assemblage. In the recent past, several studies on the herbivores, large carnivores and mega-herbivores have been carried out, but ...

Haltung, Fütterung, Fortpflanzung und Krankheitsgeschehen des Lippenbären (Melursus ursinus, Shaw 1791) in Zoologischen Gärten unter besonderer Berücksichtigung des Metastasierenden Extrahepatischen Gallengangskarzinomes (MEG) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002

The bear necessities:A new dental microwear database for the interpretation of palaeodiet in fossil Ursidae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
This study presents a new database of dental microwear features for extant bear species, which is used to interpret palaeodiet in brown bear (Ursus arctos) from the late Middle Pleistocene site of Grays Thurrock, U.K.
