Endocytosis: clathrin-mediated membrane budding
Current Opinion in Cell Biology, 2007Clathrin-dependent endocytosis is the major pathway for the uptake of nutrients and signaling molecules in higher eukaryotic cells. The long-held tenet that clathrin-coated vesicles are created from flat coated plasma membrane patches by a sequential process of invagination, bud formation and fission recently received strong support from the results of

Zinc localization in taste bud membranes
Biological Trace Element Research, 1983Zinc was measured by flame aspiration atomic absorption spectrophotometry in homogenates and in enriched fractions and subfractions from bovine taste bud membranes and from surrounding control tissues that contained no taste buds. Zinc was found in significantly higher concentrations in tissues containing taste buds and increased in concentration as ...

Budding Dynamics of the Lipid Membrane
Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, 2011Liposomes are widely used in industrial engineering systems including cosmetics and pharmaceutical and biotechnological applications. A fundamental understanding of the dynamics of lipid bud formation is required to efficiently produce various high-technological liposomes with well-controlled sizes and shapes.

Budded membrane microdomains as tension regulators
Physical Review E, 2006We propose a mechanism by which changes of the mechanical tension of a composite lipid membrane are buffered by the invagination of membrane domains. We show that domain invagination, driven by differences in chemical composition, is a first-order transition controlled by membrane tension.
