Phase separation and curvature of bilayer membranes

Physical Review E, 1993
Phase separation of two-component mixtures in fluid bilayers is shown to result in a stable one-phase vesicle region near the critical composition for the mixture. The resulting phase diagram exhibits tricritical behavior: The critical point for phase separation lies on the line of continuous transitions between lamellar and vesicle phases.

Folded Graphene Membranes: Mapping Curvature at the Nanoscale

Nano Letters, 2012
While the unique elastic properties of monolayer graphene have been extensively investigated, less knowledge has been developed so far on folded graphene. Nevertheless, it has been recently suggested that fold-induced curvature (without in-plane strain) could possibly affect the local chemical and electron transport properties of graphene, envisaging a

On the influence of polyvalent ligands on membrane curvature

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1977
Abstract The suggestion is made that a polyvalent ligand attached to a membrane will induce a curvature in that membrane which is concave toward the side to which that ligand is bound. This article presents a semiquantitative thermodynamic analysis predicting this effect for a simple system.
