Role of Oscillations in Membrane Potential, Cytoplasmic Ca2+, and Metabolism for Plasma Insulin Oscillations

Diabetes, 2002
A model for the relationship between ionic and metabolic oscillations and plasma insulin oscillations is presented. It is argued that the pancreatic β-cell in vivo displays two intrinsic frequencies that are important for the regulation of plasma insulin oscillations.

Membrane potential oscillations in enzymatically isolated rat myocardial cells

Acta Physiologica Scandinavica, 1983
Enzymatical isolation was used for preparation of single myocardial cells, contractions of which were mainly of slow phasic type but normal fast contractions also occurred. Membrane potential (MP) changes of these cells were measured by conventional micro‐electrode techniques.

Modelling Oscillations of Membrane Potential Difference

2007
The oscillation of the membrane potential difference (PD) is considered in terms of one or more ion transporters changing their conductances. For slow oscillations (period greater than about one minute), the transporters could be identified by employing the current–voltage (I/V) technique.

Ciguatoxin‐induced oscillations in membrane potential and action potential firing in rat parasympathetic neurons

European Journal of Neuroscience, 2002
AbstractThe actions of ciguatoxins from the Pacific (P‐CTX‐1) and Caribbean (C‐CTX‐1) regions were investigated in isolated parasympathetic neurons from rat intracardiac ganglia using patch‐clamp recording techniques. Under current‐clamp conditions, bath application of P‐CTX‐1 (1–10 nm) or C‐CTX‐1 (10–30 nm) caused a gradual depolarization that was ...

Simulation of the light-induced oscillations of the membrane potential in Potamogeton leaf cells

The Journal of Membrane Biology, 1993
An attempt has been made to simulate the light-induced oscillations of the membrane potential of Potamogeton lucens leaf cells in relation to the apoplastic pH changes. Previously it was demonstrated that the membrane potential of these cells can be described in terms of proton movements only.

Stable Potential Oscillation of Lipid Membrane Supported by a Micropore

Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 1991
A rhythmic, sustained, stable potential oscillation was reproducibly observed for a lipid membrane supported by a micropore of a thin membrane tip micropipette. Amplitude and period of the oscillation voltage was controlled by changing the pore diameter. The relationship between oscillation period and pore diameter when the pore diameter was below

Caffeine-induced oscillations of the membrane potential inAplysia neurons

Neurophysiology, 2000
It has been found in culturedAplysia neurons, including L7 and L2–L6 neurons, that bath application of 40 mM caffeine evokes oscillations of the membrane potential (MP) with the amplitude of about 40 mV. The frequency of oscillations, on the crest of which action potentials (AP) arise, varied from 0.2 to 0.5 sec1.

Oscillating Streaming Potential and Electro-osmosis of Multilayer Membranes

The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2004
Artificial membranes consist of multilayers that have different physical or chemical properties. They are often considered as an equivalent single-layer membrane without taking into account the detail inside. Based on the Debye−Huckel approximation, we have provided analytical solutions of oscillating electrokinetic flow in multilayer membranes.

Membrane potential oscillations underlying firing patterns in neocortical neurons

Neuroscience, 1994
Membrane potential oscillations were studied in slices of rat somatosensory cortex maintained in vitro, using intracellular recordings from cells in layers 2/3 and 5. The cells were classified according to their firing patterns during long (0.8-1 s) depolarizing current steps. Subthreshold voltage oscillations were revealed by depolarizing the membrane
