Membrane Wrapping for High Capacity and Rapidly Switchable Adhesives

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A membrane‐wrapping mechanism enables high‐capacity, rapidly switchable adhesion by coupling suction, friction, and adhesion. Broadband performance is achieved in dry and underwater conditions, allowing fast, reversible manipulation of objects of diverse sizes and shapes, from delicate eggs and berries to flat, complex, or heavy objects. These outcomes

Predicting Atomic Charges in MOFs by Topological Charge Equilibration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An atomic charge prediction method is presented that is able to accurately reproduce ab‐initio‐derived reference charges for a large number of metal–organic frameworks. Based on a topological charge equilibration scheme, static charges that fulfill overall neutrality are quickly generated.

Switchable Supramolecular Adhesive by Tuning Interfacial Bonding and Modulus

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The supramolecular adhesive (HyDiP) shows reversible adhesion and recyclability. In the dehydrated state, it is dense, stiff (E ≈445 MPa), transparent, and provides strong bonding with adhesion strengths up to 4.65 MPa. In the hydrated state, it becomes porous, soft (E ≈0.11 MPa), and detaches easily, enabling sustainable high‐strength applications ...

Time-reversed memory effects

Physical Review B, 1990
The random speckle patterns produced by disordered systems are shown to be highly correlated along any two directions which are related by time-reversal symmetry. This striking new phenomenon arises from the inclusion of crossed diagrams in the treatment of fluctuation phenomena, and in reflection yields a double peak for the memory-effect correlation ...

Temperature memory effect in amorphous shape memory polymers

Soft Matter, 2014
Temperature memory effect in shape memory polymers is found to be complicated and the shape memory characteristic temperature depends on the programming temperature and other programming conditions.

Memory Effects and Homogenization

Archive for Rational Mechanics and Analysis, 1990
For each \(\epsilon >0\) consider problem \(\frac{\partial u^{\epsilon}(x,t)}{\partial t}+a^{\epsilon}(x)u^{\epsilon}(x,t)=f(x,t),\) \(x\in \Omega\), \(t\in (0,T)\); \(u^{\epsilon}(x,0)=0\), \(x\in \Omega\), and suppose that \(0\leq \alpha \leq a^{\epsilon}(x)\leq \beta\), a.e. and f is bounded and measurable.

Effect sizes in memory research

Memory, 2013
Effect sizes are omitted from many research articles and are rarely discussed. To help researchers evaluate effect sizes we collected values for the more commonly reported effect size measures (partial eta squared and d) from papers reporting memory research published in 2010.

Memory effects in GaTe films

Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids, 1977
GaTe films have been prepared by the three temperatures method on mica and conducting glass substrates. The films which were deposited on mica were polycrystalline, while those deposited on conducting glass were generally amorphous. The resistivity of the films could be varied between 102 and 107 Ω-cm by varying the growth parameters which are ...

Effects of Hypnotics on Memory

Pharmacology, 1983
The influence on memory of 7.5 mg zopiclone, given in single and repeated doses was compared with that of 2 mg flunitrazepam, 5 mg nitrazepam and placebo. Compared with placebo, all three drugs induced some impairment of memory especially after the first day of administration. Effects were more pronounced for the two benzodiazepines and more marked for

Eliminating the memory blocking effect

Memory, 2008
Six experiments investigated the memory blocking effect (MBE) in which exposure to orthographically similar words (e.g., BALLOON) impairs one's ability to complete a similar fragment (e.g., BAL_ON_, solution is BALCONY). Experiments 1 and 2 demonstrated that blocking is not observed after a 72-hour delay; however, repetition priming was observed after ...
