Fostering Innovation: Streamlining Magnetocaloric Materials Research by Digitalization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetocaloric cooling (MCE) is an environmentally friendly refrigeration method with great potential. Optimizing MCE materials involves the preparation and screening of large quantities of samples, which in turn generates a large amount of data. A digitalization approach is presented that uses ontologies, knowledge graphs, and digital workflows to ...

Modeling Long Memory in REITs [PDF]

open access: yes
One stylized feature of financial volatility impacting the modeling process is long memory. This paper examines long memory for alternative risk measures, observed absolute and squared returns for Daily REITs and compares the findings for a market equity

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

The scaling function-based estimator of the long memory parameter: a comparative study [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper an original estimator of long memory is considered. It is based on the scaling function directly extracted from multifractal formalism. Monte Carlo simulations show that the scaling function gives interesting results, notably in terms of ...

Neural processes underpinning episodic memory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Episodic memory is the memory for our personal past experiences. Although numerous functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies investigating its neural basis have revealed a consistent and distributed network of associated brain regions ...

High-density three-dimensional integration of dynamic random-access memory using vertical dual-gate IGZO TFTs

open access: yesNature Communications
An architecture for three-dimensional integration of dynamic random-access memory that enables higher memory density is presented as a new solution to the bottleneck currently faced in artificial intelligence deployment. The basis of this architecture is

Recycling of NiTi Shape Memory Alloys: Fundamental and Technological Aspects of a Vacuum Induction Melting Processing Route

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The present study investigates recycling of NiTi shape memory alloys via vacuum induction melting. An ingot was synthesized from elemental Ni and Ti and subjected to three subsequent remelting cycles. Remelting increases process durations and impurity levels and adversely affects microstructures and functional properties.

Soft Mechanical‐Electrical Logic Using Liquid Metal‐Filled 3D‐Printed Architectures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present 3D‐printed soft mechanical–electrical logic elements that use liquid metal–filled silicone tubes actuated by thermoplastic polyurethane/polylactic acid (TPU/PLA) architectures to produce Boolean operations. Complementary normally open and normally closed unit cells perform repeatable binary transitions and can be combined into more complex ...
