Fractionation of Menhaden Oil and Partially Hydrogenated Menhaden Oil: Characterization of Triacylglycerol Fractions

JAOCS, Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 2001
AbstractMenhaden oil (MO) and partially hydrogenated menhaden oil (PHMO) were dry‐fractionated and solvent‐fractionated from acetone. After conversion to fatty acid methyl esters, the compositional distribution of saturated, monounsaturated, trans, and n−3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) in the isolated fractions was determined by gas chromatography.

Phospholipids of menhaden muscle

Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1965
AbstractThe phospholipids of menhaden fish muscle represent about 0.5% of the wet weight. They were separated by fractionation on a silica gel column. Choline glycerophosphatides were the major components, about 60%. Ethanolamine and serine glycerophosphatides accounted for about 20%, and sphingomyelin and less well‐characterized components for the ...

Separation and Characterization of Menhaden Hemoglobin Components

Hemoglobin, 1980
Hemolysate from Brevoortia tyrannus (Atlantic Menhaden) consists of two major and two minor components, as determined by ion-exchange chromatography. Oxygen equilibria, flash photolysis and rapid mixing techniques are used to detect functional differences between the two major components, revealing a system analogous to the Trout I-IV system.

Spawning and Rearing Atlantic Menhaden

The Progressive Fish-Culturist, 1981
Abstract Two-year-old Atlantic menhaden (Brevoortia tyrannus) held in the laboratory at ambient temperatures and salinities for more than 1 year, were induced to spawn by injecting first human chorionic gonadotropin and then carp pituitary powder. Spawning took place at temperatures of 16 to 20°C in a 2,100-L indoor tank modified to recover the buoyant

Migrations of Tagged Juvenile Atlantic Menhaden

Transactions of the American Fisheries Society, 1973
Abstract From 1967 to 1971 over 80,000 juvenile Atlantic menhaden, Brevoortia tyrannus, were tagged from Florida to Massachusetts. Returns of the internal ferromagnetic body tags from the commercial menhaden fisheries indicate the juveniles migrate as far south as Florida in the fall and winter and then redistribute northward along the coast by size as
