Intracanalicular meningiomas are extremely rare and difficult to differentiate from intracanalicular vestibular schwannomas. We report an unusual case of a posterior fossa meningioma in the proximal internal auditory canal that was originally diagnosed as a vestibular schwannoma due to its appearance on magnetic resonance imaging.

Current Treatment Options in Neurology, 2010
Meningiomas are extra-axial dural-based tumors. They are the most common intracranial tumors, occur in mid to late life, and have a female predilection. Symptoms are a function of location. Meningiomas are usually benign, but atypical and malignant forms exist. Treatment is indicated for symptomatic lesions or when neurologic symptoms may shortly occur.

Six meningiomas with abundant hyaline inclusions (pseudopsammoma bodies) were studied. As seen by light and electron microscopy, hyaline inclusions are composed of material of varying structures located in intracellular lumina lined by microvilli. A remarkable pericytic proliferation within the vessel walls was found in five cases.
