[Splenectomy and Haemophilus influenzae meningitis].

The case of a boy aged 13 years with Haemophilus influenzae type b meningitis is presented. Six years previously, splenectomy was performed on account of trauma. He died from the meningitis after ten days despite the recommended antibiotic treatment. Splenectomized patients should always seek medical advice at the first of any infection.

The anamnestic data, signs and symptoms, laboratory findings, the courses and final results of treatment are described.

Case report of a neonatal meningitis due to Haemophilus influenzae. The treatment with ampicillin was ineffective because of insensitivity. This case demonstrates the importance of a proper bacteriological identification in order to avoid ineffective or delayed treatment.
