Pneumococcal Meningitis in Adults
Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1994A retrospective study was conducted to examine the clinical features and outcome of 31 adult pneumococcal meningitis patients during the years 1981-92. The incidence was 1.0/100,000 adults/year. The case fatality rate was 16% (5/31), and in patients older than 70 years, 33% (3/9). Sequelae were seen in 29% (7/24), mostly otoneurologic symptoms.
