A formação em Química discutida com base nos modelos proposto por estudantes de pós-graduação para o fenômeno de dissolução Graduation in chemistry discussed in relation to graduate students' models concerning the phenomenon of dissolution

open access: yesQuímica Nova, 2009
Mental models play an important role in the evolution of an individual's so-called knowledge. Using such representations, students can explain, foresee, and attribute causality to observed phenomena. In the case of Chemistry, the ability to work mentally

The New Paradigm and Mental Models [PDF]

open access: yesTrends in Cognitive Sciences, 2015
In a recent article in this journal, Johnson–Laird and colleagues argue that mental models theory (MMT) can integrate logical and probabilistic reasoning [1]. We argue that Johnson-Laird and colleagues make a radical revision of MMT, but to ill effect.\ud \ud This can best be seen in what they say about truth and validity (Box 1). Formerly ([2], p. 651)

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Identification of students' mental models about the milk transformation in yogurt [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A review of the scientific literature reveals that there are still few researches on the conceptions of secondary school students about chemical reactions involving microorganisms, especially those related to the mental models that students use in their ...

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Distinct Molecular Responses to Ketamine and Imipramine in Cortical and Striatal Regions Following Acute Swim Stress

open access: yesBiomolecules
Pharmacological antidepressant treatments alter the molecular and functional reactivity of stress-sensitive neural networks. However, how classical versus rapid-acting antidepressants differentially modulate acute stress-induced transcriptional responses

Re‐Awakening Public Attention to the Silent Pandemic of Cancer Among Older Adults in Low‐ and Middle‐Income Countries

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As global populations age, cancer is increasingly becoming a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among older adults, particularly in low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs). Despite accounting for the majority of new cancer cases and deaths, older individuals remain underrepresented in cancer research, clinical guidelines, and health ...
