Patterns of emergence of the human mental nerve
Archives of Oral Biology, 2002This study investigated the path of emergence of the mental nerve in a number of human population groups. Skeletal material comprised 117 Negro skulls (53 males), 114 caucasoid skulls (62 males) and 100 pre-contact Maori skulls (70 males). In each case, the path of emergence was classified into posterior, anterior, right-angled or multiple. Those cases

Neurilemmoma of the mental nerve
Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 1991from inflammation, allergy, or malignancy. Many of the signs and symptoms mimic an invasive carcinoma of the sinus and this must be stressed in making the proper diagnosis.’ It may be possible to make this distinction with CT, as mucoceles do not enhance after administration of contrast material, whereas tumors do.9 The more common mucoceles are ...

Sensory nerve conduction study of the mental nerve
Muscle & Nerve, 2000We describe a technique for sensory nerve conduction study of the mental nerve. A monopolar recording needle is placed near the mandibular foramen using the same approach as that for routine inferior alveolar nerve block in dentistry, and a surface reference electrode is positioned over the ipsilateral mastoid process.

Mental Foramen and Mental Nerve: Changes with Age
Cells Tissues Organs, 1986In a study of 525 dry mandibles and dissections in 50 cadavers, the mental foramen (MF) was found: single in 94.67% of the cases and multiple in 5.33%. Its shape was round in 34.48% with an average diameter of 1.68 mm and oval in 65.52% with an average long diameter of 2.37 mm. In 43.66% the MF was located in front of the apex of the root of the second

Accessory Branch of the Mental Nerve
Journal of Endodontics, 2000This case report presents a surgical case in which an accessory branch of the mental nerve exited the mandible distal and slightly superior to the mental foramen. Careful manipulation of the surgical site allowed proper identification of the mental nerve, and the accessory branch and permanent nerve damage was avoided.

Mental nerve neuralgia is a painful disorder in the distribution of the mental nerve. The first description of mental nerve neuropathy was given by Charles Bell in 1830, who reported the phenomenon in a patient with advanced breast cancer due to a bony metastasis in her left mandible [1].

Branching Patterns of Mental Nerve in Newborns
Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2020Abstract In classical textbooks of Anatomy, the mental nerve is considered to be the terminal or main branch of the inferior alveolar nerve, especially trifurcate with no designated names as soon as it emerges from the mental foramen.
