Transposition of the mental nerve in orthognathic surgery

Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 1987
Transposition of the mental nerve in association with orthognathic surgery was performed 25 times in 16 patients. Indications for transposition generally were use of the premolar region for surgical correction of anterior open bite or dentoalveolar prognathism. In one case, reduction of the mandibular base was the surgical indication.

Innervation of the mandibular incisors by the mental nerve

Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 1997
This study tested the hypothesis that some sensory innervation to the lower incisor teeth comes from reentry of the terminal branches of the mental nerve through the labial plate of the anterior mandible.Ten cadaveric heads (20 sides) were dissected and studied to determine whether the mental nerve crossed the midline or reentered the labial plate ...

Mental Nerve Entrapment

2016
Mental neuralgia causes chin pain and also causes “numb chin syndrome.” Although it is often triggered by dental or physical trauma, it may also be a harbinger of metastatic cancer. In this chapter we discuss the presentation, diagnosis, and treatment of mental neuralgia.

Nerves, but not mentally.

The Journal of clinical psychiatry, 1982
This report attempts to delineate the nature of "Nerves" using data collected from 101 Social Security Disability petitioners from Eastern Kentucky. Statistical analysis of Cornell Medical Index items reveals a relatively unique constellation of symptoms for individuals claiming disability primarily due to "Nerves" rather than somatic or mental causes.

Structural development of the feline mental nerve

The Anatomical Record, 1984
AbstractThe qualitative and quantitative structural development of the feline mental nerve (MN), a branch of the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN), was studied by electron microscopy from 40 days postconception (dpc) (about 2 weeks before birth) to 11 years after birth. Myelination was initiated at 40–45 dpc. At 2 months after birth de novo myelination was

Anterior loop of the mental nerve, mental foramen and incisive nerve emergency: tridimensional assessment and surgical applications

Surgical and Radiologic Anatomy, 2016
The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence and length of the anterior loop (AL), the distance from this landmark to the alveolar crest and its relation with the shape of the foramen and emergency pattern in the Spanish population on helical computed tomography scan (helical CT scan) through tridimensional reconstructions.Helical CT scan ...

Morphologic effects of glycerol on the mental nerve

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology, and Endodontology, 1998
In recent years, injection of pure glycerol has been used successfully for the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia. However, the mode of action of this therapy remains unclear. The present experiment was undertaken to examine histologically the morphologic changes produced by extraneural injections of pure glycerol into the dog mental nerve.Under direct ...

Restoration of Lower‐lip Sensation: Neurotization of the Mental Nerve with the Supraclavicular Nerve

Journal of Reconstructive Microsurgery, 1997
Trigeminal nerve palsy resulting from cerebrovascular accidents can result in significant disability for patients. Loss of lip and chin sensation may involve lip biting, impaired speech, and diminished salivary retention. Neurotization of the mental nerve with the supraclavicular nerve can restore sensibility to the lower lip for patients with central ...

Mental nerve neuropathy associated with compound odontoma

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1987
An instance of anesthesia of the lower lip caused by a compound odontoma in the mental foramen region is described. Removal of the odontoma was followed by a full recovery of the sensation.
