Neonatal seizures and GABAergic drugs: Scylla and Charybdis?

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Neonates have a high incidence of seizures that are frequently difficult to control with conventional first‐line anti‐seizure medications, which are gamma‐aminobutyric acid (GABA) agonists. The reasons for this clinical problem are multifold but are likely related to the unique physiology of the immature nervous system. Specifically, the early

Average hyperkalemia between 5.5 and 6.4 mEq/L does not increase mortality in patients undergoing dialysis

open access: yesRenal Replacement Therapy
Background The impact of hyperkalemia on mortality in cohort studies is difficult to assess because of fluctuations in serum potassium (S-K) levels, differences in the intensity of intervention for S-K, and the reliability of S-K levels measured across ...

Micro and Nanoencapsulation of Omega‐3 Fatty Acids: Functional Applications and Future Perspectives in Food Systems

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
Whey protein‐based microencapsulation for omega‐3 PUFA delivery in food systems. Objective: Enhance oxidative stability & bioavailability of omega‐3 PUFAs using whey protein as an encapsulating agent. Current methods: Spray drying & coacervation—effective but limited by heat sensitivity and encapsulation efficiency. Emerging technologies: Electrospray &

Interference Coordination via Power Domain Channel Estimation

open access: yes, 2017
A novel technique is proposed which enables each transmitter to acquire global channel state information (CSI) from the sole knowledge of individual received signal power measurements, which makes dedicated feedback or inter-transmitter signaling ...

Effect of Wall Material Concentrations on Microencapsulation Efficiency and Oxidative Stability of Pomegranate Seed Oil

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates how different wall materials influence the efficiency, stability, and quality of oil encapsulation, highlighting optimal formulations that enhance protection against oxidation. ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to evaluate how different compositions of wall materials affect the efficiency and oxidative stability of ...

Seasonal drivers of plant–soil–microbial community structure and functions in Western Himalayan grasslands, Pakistan

open access: yesGrassland Research, EarlyView.
Plant species richness was greater in summer in both alpine and subalpine grassland ecosystems. Soil moisture demonstrates significant positive correlations with soil organic carbon and total nitrogen across seasonal periods. Microbial α‐diversity peaks during summer but maintains functional stability across seasons.

Understanding salinity evolution in the Moroccan Ghiss-Nekor aquifer using differential mapping technique [PDF]

open access: yesBIO Web of Conferences
Assessing spatiotemporal groundwater hydrochemistry evolution is crucial for sustainable aquifer management. The Ghiss-Nekor aquifer, located in a semi-arid coastal region, requires a comprehensive grasp of hydrochemical shifts for proactive degradation ...

Third-order analysis of pseudopotential lattice Boltzmann model for multiphase flow

open access: yes, 2016
In this work, a third-order Chapman-Enskog analysis of the multiple-relaxation-time (MRT) pseudopotential lattice Boltzmann (LB) model for multiphase flow is performed for the first time.

A Comparative Study on the Irrigation Suitability of Kerala's Rivers Using Fuzzy AHP and Conventional Methods

open access: yesIrrigation and Drainage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Food security in Kerala depends on effective irrigation, but poor‐quality irrigation water poses threats such as salinity, sodicity and reduced soil productivity. Although past assessments have been localised, this study presents the first comprehensive, statewide evaluation of irrigation water suitability across 44 major rivers in Kerala.
