Identifying MESSENGER Magnetospheric Boundary Crossings Using a Random Forest Region Classifier

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Machine Learning and Computation, Volume 3, Issue 1, February 2026.
Abstract We present a new list of bow shock and magnetopause crossings based on automated region classification for the MESSENGER (Mercury Surface, Space Environment, Geochemistry and Ranging) mission. We fit a random forest model to magnetometer and ephemeris data to classify the solar wind, magnetosheath, and magnetosphere regions surrounding Mercury.

Incorporating W‐Band Doppler Velocity Signal Simulator Into COSP2: Model Evaluation Against Ground‐Based Radar Measurement

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, Volume 18, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract A new signal simulator for Doppler velocity, derived for W‐band cloud profiling radar onboard EarthCARE, is developed and implemented into the Cloud Feedback Model Intercomparison Project Observation Simulator Package version 2 (COSP2). The simulator converts the vertical motion of hydrometeors and cumulus mass flux in global climate models ...

Reconstructing Environmental and Microbial Ecosystem Changes Across the Permian–Triassic Mass Extinction at Lusitaniadalen, Svalbard

open access: yesPaleoceanography and Paleoclimatology, Volume 41, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract The Permian–Triassic environmental crisis triggered fundamental changes in marine ecosystems, culminating in the most severe biodiversity crisis of the Phanerozoic. Yet, the environmental and geochemical conditions governing the crisis and ecosystem recovery remain debated.

The HIF‐1α Pathway Regulates Satellite Cell Fate During Aging Through Histone Lactylation

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 2, February 2026.
FG‐4592–induced activation of HIF‐1α enhances anaerobic glycolysis and promotes lactate‐driven PAX7 lactylation, thereby boosting satellite cell activity and counteracting age‐related muscle decline. ABSTRACT Aging‐associated sarcopenia is driven in part by the progressive loss of type II glycolytic fibers and the functional decline of their resident ...
