Reusable Ionogel-based Photo-actuators in a Lab-on-a-disc [PDF]
This paper describes the design, fabrication and performance of a reusable ionogel-based photo-actuator, in-situ photopolymerised into a lab-on-a-disc microfluidic device, for flow control.

Biomimetic supramolecular hosts in water affect outcomes and behavior of E/Z‐isomerizations. A deeper understanding of such effects can pave the way to understanding photochemical processes in more complex biological environments. The review displays examples of supramolecular hosts affecting the outcomes of E/Z‐isomerizations and subsequently ...

Reversible, Opto-Mechanically Induced Spin-Switching in a Nanoribbon-Spiropyran Hybrid Material
It has recently been shown that electronic transport in zigzag graphene nanoribbons becomes spin-polarized upon application of an electric field across the nanoribbon width.

Synthesis and characterisation of spiropyran-polymer brushes in micro-capillaries: towards an integrated optical sensor for continuous flow analysis [PDF]
Fused silica-capillaries were successfully functionalised with spiropyran-polymer brushes using spiropyran functionalised norbornyl derivative as monomer. The polymerisation was achieved by surface-initiated ring- opening metathesis polymerisation.

This review summarizes how even minor chemical modifications can be used to shape spiropyran photochromism. We highlight how substituents, strain, and heteroatoms tune absorption, stability, switching efficiency, and overall photochromic behaviour.

Synthesis and Spectral Properties of a New Spirophotochromic Molecule
Due to their ability to reversibly isomerize under the influence of external stimuli, spiropyrans represent the most interesting class of organic photochromic molecules.

Donor–acceptor Stenhouse aDdducts (DASAs) are known for their photoinduced tautomerization, which, when conjugated to block copolymers, can self‐assemble into tuneable polymersomes. These DASA‐polymersomes are being investigated for light‐controlled cargo release in biomedical applications.

Transient absorption spectroscopy on spiropyran monolayers using nanosecond pump–probe Brewster angle reflectometry [PDF]
Self-assembled monolayers of 11-(3’,3’-dimethyl-6,8-dinitrospiro[chromene-2,2’-indoline]-1’-yl) undecanoic acid (amphiphilic spiropyran) at the air–water interface are studied using Brewster angle reflectometry.

Photo- and solvatochromic properties of nitrobenzospiropyran in ionic liquids containing the [NTf2]- anion [PDF]
The photo-, thermo- and solvatochromic properties of 2,3-dihydro-10,30,30-trimethyl-6-nitrospiro- [1-benzopyran-2,20-1H-indole] (BSP-NO2) were studied in ILs containing the anion [NTf2]- by UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy, ab initio molecular orbital ...

Crystal Structure and Optical Behavior of Diamino-Substituted 1,4-Benzoquinones
Reactions of benzoquinone with amines can potentially lead to the formation of coupled merocyanine or merocyanine/polymethine systems. In this study, several diamino-substituted 1,4-benzoquinones were synthesized.
