Marin Mersenne: Minim Monk and Messenger; Monotheism, Mathematics, and Music

open access: yes, 2019
If you have taught a number theory course or even watched the mathematical news, you know that occasionally a new (and enormous) “Mersenne prime” is discovered.

There Are Infinitely Many Mersenne Primes

open access: yes
This paper explores Mersenne primes of the form 2p-1 where, p is a prime. By extension, the paper also explores Perfect numbers. An insight into these numbers is explored using novel methods that involve the trigonometric functions with integer factorable arguments.

A Treatise on the Theory of Mersenne Numbers and Primality Testing

open access: yes
This thesis explores Mersenne numbers, numbers of the form $2^p-1$ where $p$ is prime. We are particularly concerned with when such numbers are themselves prime.
