Characterization of a Salt-Responsive 24-Kilodalton Glycoprotein in Mesembryanthemum crystallinum [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 1994
A concanavalin A (Con A)-binding polypeptide with a molecular mass of 24 kD (termed "SRgp24") was associated with the intercellular space of Mesembryanthemum crystallinum L. callus. When callus was grown in medium containing between 0 and 100 mM NaCl, SRgp24 was detected by Con A binding.

Population Genetics Reveals the Invasion Pathways of Mesembryanthemum nodiflorum in North America. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Mesembryanthemum nodiflorum is a species of ice plant native to South Africa that has become invasive in California and Mexico. The present study used RADseq data to run a population genetics analysis to match the invasive populations to those in the native and introduced ranges of the Mediterranean.

Diverse salinity responses in Crithmum maritimum tissues at different salinities over time [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Crithmum maritimum (sea fennel) withstands high salinity, and to better understand how different protective mechanisms against salinity are activated, young seedlings were exposed to increasing concentrations of NaCl (0 to 512 mM) over six weeks.

Transformation with a gene for myo-inositol O-methyltransferase enhances the cold tolerance of Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesBiologia Plantarum, 2012
In this study, we report a function of myo-inositol-O-methyltransferase (Imt1) in response to low temperature stress using transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana.

Suppressor of K+ transport growth defect 1 (SKD1) interactswith RING-type ubiquitin ligase and sucrose non-fermenting1-related protein kinase (SnRK1) in the halophyte ice plant [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
SKD1 (suppressor of K+ transport growth defect 1) is an AAA-type ATPase that functions as a molecular motor. It was previously shown that SKD1 accumulates in epidermal bladder cells of the halophyte Mesembryanthemum crystallinum.

Age of plant influences the effect of salinity in yield and mineral content of ice plant

open access: yesJournal of Applied Botany and Food Quality, 2022
The use of salinity-tolerant plants represents a response to the problem of the expansion of salinized soils, making coastal and salt-affected areas productive. Furthermore, limited fresh water resources may increasingly constrain the use of low-quality

Evaluation of Sodium Chloride Concentrations on Growth and Phytochemical Production of Mesembryanthemum crystallinum L. in a Hydroponic System

open access: yesHorticulturae
Mesembryanthemum crystallinum L., commonly known as the ice plant, is a halophyte recognized for its exceptional salinity tolerance. This study aimed to determine the optimal NaCl concentration for promoting plant growth, D-pinitol, and other ...
