Testicular torsion in foals and stallions

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary Testicular torsion is a rare condition in horses characterised by a change in the position of the testis due to the testicular mesentery twisting around its own axis; it can occur both when the testis is still in the abdominal cavity and when it has descended into the scrotum.

Testosterone and β-oestradiol prevent inward remodelling of rat small mesenteric arteries: role of NO and transglutaminase

open access: yes, 2013
Increasing evidence shows that sex hormones exert a protective effect on the vasculature, especially in the regulation of the active vasomotor responses. However, whether sex hormones affect vascular remodelling is currently unclear. In the present study,

Acute and sudden death secondary to cardiac tamponade during anaesthetic recovery in a 21‐year‐old draught mule

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary This case report is of educational value and contributes to the literature because it describes a unique death after anaesthesia due to cardiac tamponade from a rare cardiac neoplasm. In trying to diagnose the origin of chronic sinusitis, a geriatric mule mare was anaesthetised and during recovery, died acutely.

Resistant hypertension and mesenteric ischemia: A unique therapeutic journey

open access: yesAnnals of Vascular Surgery - Brief Reports and Innovations
Objectives: Chronic mesenteric ischemia (CMI) typically presents with postprandial pain, food aversion, and weight loss. This case report describes an atypical presentation of CMI with intolerance to anti-hypertensive drugs.

Management of Breakthrough Bleeding During Emicizumab Prophylaxis in Acquired Haemophilia A: Data From the GTH‐AHA‐EMI Study

open access: yesHaemophilia, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction The GTH‐AHA‐EMI study showed that emicizumab reduces bleeding in patients with acquired haemophilia A (AHA). However, 22 clinically relevant new bleeds (CRNB) occurred in 14 of the 47 study patients, most of which required haemostatic treatment.

Beta-adrenoceptor-mediated release of angiotensin II from mesenteric arteries

open access: yes, 1986
Essential components of the renin-angiotensin system such as renin enzymes, angiotensinogen, converting enzyme, and angiotensin receptors have been found in vascular tissues.

VEGF inhibitor‐induced vascular dysfunction involves redox‐sensitive PARP activation and SIRT1 disruption

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR) inhibitors are effective antiangiogenic agents used in cancer therapy. However, they are associated with cardiovascular disease, including hypertension and vascular dysfunction. The molecular mechanisms underlying these cardiovascular toxicities are unclear, but oxidative stress might be ...
