Spontaneous avulsion of the inferior mesenteric artery in a neurofibromatosis type 1 patient: a case-based review

open access: yes
We present the case of successful endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR) in a 55-year-old male who presented with a ruptured infrarenal aortic pseudoaneurysm, formed after spontaneous avulsion of the inferior mesenteric artery. The avulsion

Ruptured partially thrombosed anterior inferior cerebellar artery aneurysms : two case reports and review of literature [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
2016-11Aneurysms arising from the distal anterior inferior cerebellar artery (AICA) are very rare. When the parent artery is an AICA−posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) variant, occlusion of the artery, even distal to the meatal loop, leads to a ...

Long‐Term Outcomes After Elective Splenectomy for Haematological Disease: A 27‐Year Single‐Centre Study

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
Splenectomy is a safe and effective treatment option in selected patients with haematological disease, despite declining referrals over the last 27 years in the era of targeted therapies. Outcomes are favourable when performed laparoscopically and long‐term follow‐up demonstrates sustained haematologic benefit in surviving patients.

Prenatal imaging phenotypes and outcomes of umbilical‐portal‐systemic venous shunts in singleton and twin pregnancies: A historical cohort study

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
This retrospective cohort compared umbilical‐portal‐systemic venous shunts in singleton and twin pregnancies. Type III was the most common subtype in singletons, whereas Type II was the most common in twins. Fetal growth restriction was more frequent in twins, but primary structural anomaly rates were similar.

Endovascular management of colic artery pseudoaneurysm: A case report of successful intervention in a 59-year-old male with abdominal hematoma

open access: yesRadiology Case Reports
Visceral artery pseudoaneurysms, including inferior mesenteric artery pseudoaneurysms, are rare, occurring at an estimated incidence of 0.01%-0.2%. The literature reports only around 60 cases of inferior mesenteric pseudoaneurysm to date.

Inferior mesenteric artery: detailed anatomy and morphometry

open access: yesFolia Morphologica
The inferior mesenteric artery (IMA) supplies blood to the distal transverse colon, descending colon, sigmoid colon, and rectum. A thorough understanding of IMA anatomy is crucial in colon cancer surgeries and emerging percutaneous interventions. However, there is limited research on its precise morphometry, including vessel length, diameters, and ...

Venous Thromboembolism in Hematologic Malignancies: Incidence, Risk Factors, and the Role of Direct Oral Anticoagulants

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Thrombotic events, particularly venous thromboembolism (VTE), are a significant source of morbidity and mortality among patients with hematologic malignancies. These patients face unique challenges due to treatment‐related complications such as thrombocytopenia, coagulopathy, and heightened bleeding risk.

Jet flow aneurysm of inferior mesenteric artery

open access: yesIndian Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, 2020
A 56-year-old male was evaluated for postprandial abdominal pain and was detected to have an inferior mesenteric artery (IMA) aneurysm associated with critical ostial stenosis of the celiac and superior mesenteric arteries.

Cisterna Chyli Dilation Is a Risk Factor for Liver Nodules and Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Fontan‐Associated Liver Disease: Pathophysiological Role of Lymphatic Dysfunction

open access: yesHepatology Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim In Fontan‐associated liver disease (FALD), chronic congestion often confounds conventional fibrosis markers, complicating surveillance for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Although lymphatic dysfunction is fundamental to Fontan physiology, its contribution to hepatocarcinogenesis remains unclear.

Multiscale analysis of the adult human superior hypogastric plexus and hypogastric nerve

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
Using tissue clearing and light‐sheet microscopy methods, we visualized the 3D mesoscopic arrangement of neural tracts, blood vessels and neurons within the adult human superior hypogastric plexus and hypogastric nerves, identifying the latter to contain thousands of neuronal cells bodies embedded along its entire length.
