He admitted to a weight loss of 20 kg since the onset of symptoms 6 months earlier. Current Treatment Options in Gastroenterology, 2007Superior mesenteric artery (SMA) syndrome (also known as Wilkie's syndrome, chronic duodenal ileus, or cast syndrome) occurs when the third portion of the duodenum is compressed between the SMA and the aorta.
