Adaptive Mesh Refinement in Analog Mesh Computers.
The call for efficient computer architectures has introduced a variety of application-specific compute engines to the heterogeneous computing landscape. One particular engine, the analog mesh computer, has been well received due to its ability to efficiently solve partial differential equations by eliminating the iterative stages common to numerical ...

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

3D finite element modelling optimization for deep tunnels with material nonlinearity
3D modeling of tunnels using a nonlinear ground model is still a time-consuming task because it usually requires a large number of incremental phases with iterative processes, to ensure accuracy while minimizing computational effort.

Generic Adaptive Mesh Refinement
In this chapter, we explain how to implement a simple, generic and efficient adaptive mesh refinement kernel on graphics processors. This kernel maps a refined connectivity onto coarse polygons in a single pass at vertex shading stage, enabling arbitrary

A two‐dimensional multiscale finite element analysis framework was established for the first‐generation MoSiBTiC alloy, and the mechanical and fracture‐related parameters of the constituent phases were calibrated through experiments and simulations. The framework provides a basis for analyzing crack propagation behavior in its complex microstructure ...

Adaptive Grid Redistribution for a 1D Model of Turbulence and Clouds
In global atmospheric models, resolving stratocumulus (Sc) in the vertical is computationally expensive. However, Sc appear only under special meteorological conditions. Therefore, there is motivation to refine the vertical grid levels adaptively.
