Volume Cost Based Mesh Simplification [PDF]

open access: yes2009 Sixth International Conference on Computer Graphics, Imaging and Visualization, 2009
We develop a polygonal mesh simplification algorithm using a vertex-decimation approach. The novelty in our method lies in (a) a characterization of mesh vertices as hyperbolic or non-hyperbolic based upon their discrete local geometry, (b) the cost function used to select a vertex for decimation, and (c) the heuristics applied to re-triangulate the ...

Multifaceted Geometric Assessment towards Simplified Urban Surfaces Built by 3D Reconstruction

open access: yesISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information, 2019
Large-scale three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction from multi-view images is used to generate 3D mesh surfaces, which are usually built for urban areas and are widely applied in many research hotspots, such as smart cities.

MODELLING OF A LARGE ROTARY HEAT EXCHANGER [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Computer Science, 2017
The first simulation consists of a partial cut-out of gas flow canal between the heat exchanger fins. The simulation is steady state and mainly provides the information about the heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop across the canal.

Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Enabling Digital Continuity in Virtual Manufacturing for Eco‐Efficiency Assessment of Lightweight Structures by Means of a Domain‐Specific Structural Mechanics Language: Requirements, Idea and Proof of Concept

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents a solver‐agnostic domain‐specific language (DSL) for computational structural mechanics that strengthens interoperability in virtual product development. Using a hierarchical data model, the DSL enables seamless exchange between diverse simulation tools and numerical methods.
