Sting jets in simulations of a real cyclone by two mesoscale models

open access: yes, 2010
The existence of sting jets as a potential source of damaging surface winds during the passage of extratropical cyclones has recently been recognized However, there are still very few published studies on the subject Furthermore, although ills known that

Seasonal Characteristics of Mesoscale Convective Systems Over the Philippines

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology
ABSTRACT This study examines the seasonality, spatial distribution and characteristics of mesoscale convective systems (MCSs) in the Philippines from 2001 to 2019. MCS frequency is at its highest during the boreal summer (JJA), which is driven by strong southwesterly monsoon winds transporting moisture into the region.

Programmable Hydration Pathways Enable Reconfigurable Ionic Thermoelectrics for Energy Harvesting and Thermal‐Tactile Interaction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Programmable hydration pathways enable reconfigurable ionic thermoelectrics in polyquaternium hydrogels. By coupling microscopic solvation, mesoscale water channels, and macroscopic boundary control, hydration‐gated protonics decouples thermopower, response speed, and stability.

Characteristics and generation mechanisms of anticyclonic eddies, cyclonic eddies and dipole eddies in the Mozambique Channel

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
The discovery of cyclonic and dipole eddies in the Mozambique Channel (MC) indicates that the understanding of the mesoscale eddy characteristics in the MC is incomplete.

Site‐Specific Hydroxide Formation and Corrosion on Mg Nanocrystals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using single‐crystalline Mg nanocrystals, this study uncovers the intrinsic corrosion initiation mechanism. The stability of the protective Mg(OH)2 film depends on its interfacial coherence with the Mg substrate. Corrosion initiates at exposed corners, where film coverage is incomplete.

Hydrophobicity Modulated Interfacial Water Distribution for Enhanced Kinetics of HER

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In electrocatalysis, hydrophilic structures improve interfacial water management by forming a continuous, compact water film that facilitates proton/hydrogen transport, thereby lowering the effective adsorption free energy of H*. By contrast, hydrophobic structures enable rapid gas transport and promote the capture and local enrichment of gaseous ...

Flexible Unusual Ternary‐Component Graded‐Modulus Dielectric Films with High‐Density Capacitive Energy Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Hierarchical PP–LSR107–BaTiO3 nanocomposite films are fabricated by one‐step extrusion and stretching for roll‐to‐roll manufacture, combining high energy storage and processing flexibility. LSR107 surrounds BaTiO3‐rich regions, locating amorphous PP, decreasing defects, and introducing deep traps that homogenize the electric field and suppress charge ...

Organoid Brain‐Machine‐Interface Devices for Central Nervous System Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We envision organoid brain‐machine‐interface (Organoid‐BMI) devices as new biohybrid bidirectional communication pathways to connect the human CNS and the external world for personalized CNS repair and regeneration. ABSTRACT Central nervous system (CNS) repair and regeneration suffer from tremendous clinical challenges due to current limitations in ...

Multiscale Architecture and Mechanics of the Cell Nucleus: Implications for Disease, Bioengineering and Nanomedicine

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nuclear mechanical properties are inherently scale‐dependent, arising from a hierarchical architecture that spans DNA, chromatin, the nuclear envelope, and condensates. Experimental techniques and theoretical models are integrated into a cohesive multiscale framework linking nanoscale structural features to organelle‐level mechanical behavior.

Evaluation of the synoptic and mesoscale predictive capabilities of a mesoscale atmospheric simulation system

open access: yes, 1983
The overall performance characteristics of a limited area, hydrostatic, fine (52 km) mesh, primitive equation, numerical weather prediction model are determined in anticipation of satellite data assimilations with the model.
