Differential heat transfer characteristics of coal macerals and their control mechanism: At the mesoscale

Energy, 2023
The dynamic heat transfer process of coal with different macroscopic types was characterized by a thermal imaging acquisition system, and the differential control mechanism of maceral composition and distribution on coal heat transfer was revealed. The results show that the temperature distribution in bright and dull coal samples are unimodal compared ...

Mesoscale Characteristics and the Role of Deformation on Ocean Dynamics

1989
Abstract : This letter constitutes the revised final report for ONR contract N00014-88-K-0203. The bulk of the research activities conducted under this contract consisted of basic research on ocean flow dynamics as it pertains to the prediction of ocean motion.

Microwave Characteristics of Organized Mesoscale Convection over the Ocean

2008 Microwave Radiometry and Remote Sensing of the Environment, 2008
Fields of AMSR-E brightness temperatures TBs of organized mesoscale convection over the ocean are analyzed together with MODIS visible images, Envisat ASAR images and QuikSCAT-derived wind fields. Cloud liquid water content Q and water vapor content V are estimated for the areas with mesoscale convection and for individual large cells.

Spectral characteristics of mesoscale variability of the bottom currents in the Ocean

Doklady Earth Sciences, 2016
We performed spectral analysis of variations in the bottom currents on the basis of direct measurements in a number of regions of the entire Atlantic Ocean. We compared the spectra of the atmospheric pressure fluctuations at sea level and fluctuations of current velocities in the bottom layer.

Impact of surface characteristics on flow over a mesoscale mountain

Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, 2014
Dynamical downscaling of atmospheric flow over Iceland has revealed that prominent downslope accelerated flows are not merely extreme events, but rather constitute a strong climatological signal over the larger ice caps. Ice caps are characterised by smooth and cold surfaces and both of these properties have previously been found to enhance downslope ...

Mesoscale Characteristics of Monsoonal Convection and Associated Stratiform Precipitation

Monthly Weather Review, 1993
Observations undertaken on 12 January 1990 at Darwin (Australia) are used to document the structure of a monsoonal rainband in a low convective available potential energy low-shear tropical environment. Dual-Doppler radar analyses are employed to investigate the structure and kinematics of the convective and stratiform regions.

Characteristics of surface temperature structure and subsurface mesoscale features

Remote Sensing of Environment, 1980
Abstract Preliminary results of near-synoptic surveys of midocean thermal variability in the upper layers indicate that the near-surface water temperature is at times a poor indicator of spatial variability in the thermocline structure. Data which were obtained in one mid-North Atlantic survey and which exhibit prominent mesoscale features are ...

Characteristics of Mediterranean Mesoscale Eddies in Intrinsic Variability Hotspots

In the present study we investigate how the physical properties of mesoscale vortices are affected by and affect characteristics of Intrinsic Oceanic Variability (IOV) in selected areas of the Mediterranean Sea. Using the AVISO Global Mesoscale Eddy Data, we analyze the life-cycles and morphology of vortices in identified IOV hotspots, such as Algerian
