Drop-Size Distribution Characteristics in Tropical Mesoscale Convective Systems

open access: yesJournal of Applied Meteorology, 2000
Abstract Drop-size distribution characteristics were retrieved in eight tropical mesoscale convective systems (MCS) using a dual-frequency (UHF and VHF) wind profiler technique. The MCSs occurred near Darwin, Australia, during the 1993/94 wet season and were representative of the monsoon (oceanic) regime.

A Numerical–Experimental Approach for Multi‐Matrix Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Characterization Using Finite Element Model Updating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

On the Universality of Mesoscience: Science of 'the in-between' [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The universality of mesoscales, ranging between elemental particles and the universe, is discussed here by reviewing widely disparate fields and presenting four cases, at differing hierarchical levels, from chemistry, chemical engineering, meteorology ...

Variable Response Characteristics of a Soft Sensorized Hydrogel Using Mesoscale Cellular Structures

open access: yes2023 IEEE International Conference on Soft Robotics (RoboSoft), 2023
Sensorized hydrogels are attracting tremendous interest in the manufacture of flexible strain sensors due to their impressive responses and tunable mechanical properties. However, many require extensive fabrication processes and hazardous raw materials, making their practical application difficult.

Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

The Mesoscale SST–Wind Coupling Characteristics in the Yellow Sea and East China Sea Based on Satellite Data and Their Feedback Effects on the Ocean

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
The mesoscale interaction between sea surface temperature (SST) and wind is a crucial factor influencing oceanic and atmospheric conditions. To investigate the mesoscale coupling characteristics of the Yellow Sea and East China Sea, we applied a locally ...

Aerosol effects on the anvil characteristics of mesoscale convective systems [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, 2016
AbstractSimulations of two mesoscale convective systems (MCSs) that occurred during the Midlatitude Continental Convective Clouds Experiment were performed to examine the impact of aerosol number concentration on the vertical distributions of liquid and ice condensate and the macrophysical, microphysical, and radiative properties of the cirrus‐anvil ...

Numerical Exploration of Thermal Shock Resistance in MgO–C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A mesostructure‐resolved numerical framework is developed to evaluate the thermal shock resistance of MgO–C refractories. By modeling interface debonding under rapid temperature changes and introducing a modified thermal shock parameter that accounts for mesocracks, the study shows how graphite content and aggregate size influence thermal shock ...

High‐Resolution and Real‐Time In Situ Generation of Cellular Spheroids by Laser‐Assisted Bioprinting for Guided Microvascularization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Micro‐injection laser‐assisted bioprinting enables ultrafast and precise patterning of small endothelial cell spheroids by injecting a highly concentrated single‐cell suspension into GelMA/ColMA hydrogels. In co‐culture with fibroblasts, controlled pre‐vasculogenic network formation is obtained at microscale resolution.
