Mixed‐Metal Promotion in a Manganese‐Molybdenum Oxynitride as Catalyst to Integrate C─C and C─N Coupling Reactions for the Direct Synthesis of Acetonitrile from Syngas and Ammonia

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Transition metal oxy/carbo‐nitrides show great promise as catalysts for sustainable processes. A Mn‐Mo mixed‐metal oxynitride attains remarkable performance for the direct synthesis of acetonitrile, an important commodity chemical, via sequential C─N and C─C coupling from syngas (C1) and ammonia (N1) feedstocks.

Analysis of acoustic field characteristics of mesoscale eddies throughout their complete life cycle

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
Mesoscale eddies exert a profound influence on oceanic temperature and salinity structures, thereby altering the ecological environment and acoustic propagation characteristics.

Clustering of Floating Tracer Due to Mesoscale Vortex and Submesoscale Fields

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2020
Floating tracer clustering is studied in oceanic flows that combine both a field of coherent mesoscale vortices, as simulated by a regional, comprehensive, eddy‐resolving general circulation model, and kinematic random submesoscale velocity fields.

Tough, Ductile, and Strong Hard‐Soft Cementitious Composite Enabled by Multi‐Material Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Drawing inspiration from the layered hard‐soft architecture found in sea sponges, this work establishes a new framework for architected cementitious composites (ACC) through multi‐material additive manufacturing (MMAM) process. The integration of mortar and elastomer phases into layered architectures enables synergistic toughening mechanisms, including

On the potential use of radar-derived information in operational numerical weather prediction [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
Estimates of requirements likely to be levied on a new observing system for mesoscale meteonology are given. Potential observing systems for mesoscale numerical weather prediction are discussed.

The challenge of predicting flash floods from thunderstorm rainfall. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
A major characteristic of the hydrometeorology of semi-arid regions is the occurrence of intense thunderstorms that develop very rapidly and cause severe flooding.

Mezoskalne karakteristike bure na južnom Jadranu

open access: yesGeofizika, 1994
The bora in Dalmatia is compared to the better known bora in the northern Adriatic. Fifteen severe storms in Split are selected during the period January 1980 to January 1983. It is shown that in most cases such a severe bora does not last long, but the gusts are above 30 m s-1, with the absolute maximum of 45 m s-1, and therefore it is comparable with

Triply‐Twinned Metamaterials: Unraveling the Mechanics and Failure Pathways Through High‐Resolution XCT

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Triply‐twinned architected lattices transform deformation from bending to stretching of struts, delivering up to threefold increases in stiffness and strength across polymeric and metallic systems. High‐resolution synchrotron XCT and image‐based simulations reveal how meta‐grain architecture, defects, and AM build orientation govern failure pathways ...

Wind and Wind Power Ramp Variability over Northern Mexico

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2020
The seasonal and diurnal variability of the wind resource in Northern Mexico is examined. Fourteen weather stations were grouped according to the terrain morphology and weather systems that affect the region to evaluate the impact on wind ramps and high ...

Evolution of Network Architecture in a Granular Material Under Compression

open access: yes, 2016
As a granular material is compressed, the particles and forces within the system arrange to form complex and heterogeneous collective structures. Force chains are a prime example of such structures, and are thought to constrain bulk properties such as ...
