High kinetic energy mesoscale eddy identification based on multi-task learning and multi-source data
Mesoscale eddies can significantly influence the surface and deep layers of the ocean, leading to diverse outcomes. Particularly, high-amplitude mesoscale eddies possess vertical structures that can reach thousands of meters, carrying greater kinetic ...

Eddy energy sources and mesoscale eddies in the Sea of Okhotsk [PDF]
Based on an eddy-permitting ocean circulation model, the eddy kinetic energy (EKE) sources are studied in the Sea of Okhotsk. An analysis of the spatial distribution of the EKE showed that intense mesoscale variability occurs along the western boundary of the Sea of Okhotsk, where the East-Sakhalin Current extends.

Random movement of mesoscale eddies in the global ocean [PDF]
<p>In this study we track and analyze eddy movement in the global ocean using 20 years of altimeter data and show that, in addition to the well-known westward propagation and slight polarity-based meridional deflections, mesoscale eddies also move randomly in all directions at all latitudes as a result of eddy-eddy interaction ...

Asymmetric Drifter Trajectories in an Anticyclonic Mesoscale Eddy
The influences of sea surface wind on the oceanic mesoscale eddy are complex. By integrating our self-developed surface drifters with satellite observations, we examined the influence of sea surface wind on the distribution of water masses and biomass within the interior of an anticyclonic eddy.

Mesoscale dynamics of an intrathermocline eddy in the Canary Eddy Corridor
Abstract. High-resolution observations of an intrathermocline eddy were conducted in November 2022 within the Canary Eddy Corridor. Formed in early summer 2022, this mature mesoscale eddy exhibited a vertical extent of 550 m, with its core centered at 110 m depth, and a segmented horizontal structure comprising a 23 km radius solid-body core surrounded

A visible record of eddies in the southern Mozambique Channel [PDF]
The flows around Madagascar feed into the Agulhas Current, but there have been few hydrographic studies of the flow within the Mozambique Channel. Some cruise and altimetric data point to this being a region of high mesoscale activity, with eddies ...

The Rossby radius in the Arctic Ocean [PDF]
The first (and second) baroclinic deformation (or Rossby) radii are presented north of ~60° N, focusing on deep basins and shelf seas in the high Arctic Ocean, the Nordic seas, Baffin Bay, Hudson Bay and the Canadian Arctic Archipelago, derived from ...
