Metabolic quotient of the soil microflora in relation to plant succession

Oecologia, 1989
In this study we propose the hypothesis that ecosystem succession is accompanied by a decrease in the metabolic quotient qCO2 (respiration-to-biomass ratio) of the soil microflora. The qCO2 is calculated from basal respiration (CO2-C·h-1) per unit microbial biomass carbon (Cmier).

Computation of metabolic quotients in plant-animal symbiotic units

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1988
Equations of several metabolic quotients of symbiotic units are derived taking a zooxanthellate scleractinian coral as a case study but are useful in any plant-animal symbiotic association. These quotients are: the photosynthetic quotient of the coral (PQ net ) and zooxanthellae (PQ z ), and the respiratory quotient of the coral (RQ c ).

Comparison of fetal and maternal hind limb metabolic quotients in sheep

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1984
This study compared substrate utilization by the fetal hind limb and the maternal hind limb in 26 sheep at 120 to 135 days of gestation. Catheters were placed in the mother and the fetus to sample femoral arterial and venous blood by use of a nonocclusive technique.

Microbial Metabolic Quotient is a Dynamic Indicator of Soil Health: Trends, Implications and Perspectives (Review)

Eurasian Soil Science, 2022
Abstract: There is growing concern about the negative impact of massive fertilizer use on soil health, threatening the environmental quality and sustainability of global agricultural production. Microbial metabolic quotient (qCO2) is an important soil health indicator, used to measure microbial C use efficiency (CUE).

Metabolism for Energy and the Respiratory Quotient

2019
This module introduces the respiratory quotient in the context of understanding how metabolism is affected by environmental conditions. It is intended for an introductory biology audience.
