The Metabolism and the Respiratory Quotient of Excised Renal Tissue.
Conclusions1. It is shown by complete double respiratory quotients that in the case of renal tissue, the error of the Warburg-Barcroft manometers is, on the average, ±0.014.2. The quotients were all between 0.7 and 1.0, and are fully accounted for by the oxidation of foodstuffs, without postulating the transformation of one into another.3. As evidenced

Contamination and Soil Biological Properties in the Serra Pelada Mine - Amazonia, Brazil
Discovered in 1980 and unleashed an utter gold rush of the modern era, Serra Pelada was the largest open-air mine in Brazil. About 80,000 gold prospectors worked there until 1984, when the gold pits were flooded. The environmental impact caused by mining

TBK1‐Associated Primary Lateral Sclerosis Followed by Right Temporal Variant Frontotemporal Dementia
ABSTRACT We report a 58‐year‐old woman with a novel splice‐site variant in the TANK‐binding kinase 1 (TBK1:c.993–2A>C p.Ala332TyrfsTer39) who sequentially developed primary lateral sclerosis (PLS) followed by right temporal variant frontotemporal dementia (rtvFTD). Neuroimaging demonstrated right anterior temporal atrophy before cognitive symptoms, and

Liming and Nitrogen Fertilization Effects on Soil Microbial Community in Long Term No-till [PDF]
Soil management influences organic matter decomposition rates as well soil microbial community functional behavior. No-till (NT) is the most used management system by farmers due to its conservation practices and high productivity.

Grazing impact on soil chemical and biological properties under different plant cover types in a mountain area of Southern Italy. [PDF]
Grazing can contribute to soil degradation by compaction due to roaming of livestock and loss of herbaceous cover, affecting also soil microbial community.

Abstract Filamentous microorganisms exhibit complex morphologies that influence product formation and are affected by various bioprocess parameters. Consistent morphology is therefore essential for comparable results during scale‐up. This study investigates the scale‐up of Streptomyces species (Streptomyces spp.) cultivations from shake flasks to ...
