Mass spectrometry based identification of AMP‐O‐Tris generated by Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Isolated Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10 generates the noncanonical ATP‐derived product AMP‐O‐Tris while in Tris‐containing buffer as identified via mass spectrometry, revealing relaxed nucleophile selectivity under isolated conditions. These findings suggest that multiprotein Csm complex assembly restricts Cas10 reactivity toward canonical cyclic ...

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Air volume not spray concentration determines in vivo efficacy of volatile organic compounds against Plasmopara viticola

open access: yesScientific Reports
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are produced by plants in response to abiotic and biotic stress stimuli. Two possible modes of action against plant pathogens have been reported for VOCs, such as the induction of plant resistance and direct inhibition ...

Identification of the first plant caffeoyl-quinate esterases in Cichorium intybus

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Chlorogenic acid (5-CQA) is a caffeic acid ester widely accumulated in higher plants. It plays roles in defense against biotic and abiotic stresses. As its biosynthetic pathway shares common enzymes and intermediates with that of lignin, 5-CQA has long ...

Cloning and characterization of novel methylsalicylic acid synthase gene involved in the biosynthesis of isoasperlactone and asperlactone in Aspergillus westerdijkiae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Aspergillus westerdijkiae is the main producer of several biologically active polyketide metabolites including isoasperlactone and asperlactone. A 5298 bp polyketide synthase gene ‘‘aomsas” has been cloned in Aspergillus westerdijkiae by using gene ...

Time‐restricted feeding prior to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection reduces tissue CD4+ T cells with limited impact on bacterial clearance

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐restricted feeding (TRF) in mice increased liver fatty acid oxidation and decreased fatty acid biosynthesis. These alterations persisted when TRF was discontinued and the host was infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Pre‐exposure to TRF did not alter tissue (lung and spleen) mycobacterial burden but significantly reduced CD3+ T cells in lungs

Upcycling of By-Products from Autochthonous Red Grapes and Commercial Apples as Ingredients in Baked Goods: A Comprehensive Study from Processing to Consumer Consumption

open access: yesAntioxidants
Lagrein grape (Vitis vinifera L.) pomace and Scilate apple (Malus domestica Borkh.) skin are polyphenol- and antioxidant-rich by-products with promising applications in the food industry. This study investigated the impact of drying and grinding on their

The development of a solid-phase fermentation system for the production of pharmaceutically useful secondary metabolites in fungi [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
A Phoma species, producing a squalestatin (Si) was grown on agar media derived from wheat, oats, oil seed rape and malt extract over a range of water availability values corresponding to water activity (aa) levels of. 0.998,0.995,0.990,0.980 and 0.960.

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

HPLC assay of zearalenone and reduced metabolites in S9 fractions of duck liver [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
HPLC analysis of zearalenone (ZEA), zearalenols (-ZOL and ß-ZOL) and zearalanols (-ZAL and ß-ZAL) was developed, in order to obtain a sensitive and reproducible method to quantify ZEA and its reduced metabolites in subcellular fractions of animal livers (
