Collecting metadata from institutional repositories [PDF]
PurposeThe purpose of this article is to review metadata issues identified in recent research carried out in Scotland on services based on metadata aggregation via OAI‐PMH, and to examine the role of collection‐level description in managing ingest to harvested repositories, subsequent harvesting by secondary aggregators, and the contextualisation of ...

CellML metadata standards, associated tools and repositories [PDF]
The development of standards for encoding mathematical models is an important component of model building and model sharing among scientists interested in understanding multi-scale physiological processes. CellML provides such a standard, particularly for models based on biophysical mechanisms, and a substantial number of models are now available in ...

A metadata-driven approach to data repository design
The design and use of a metadata-driven data repository for research data management is described. Metadata is collected automatically during the submission process whenever possible and is registered with DataCite in accordance with their current metadata schema, in exchange for a persistent digital object identifier.

On the Notion of Consistency in Metadata Repository Systems [PDF]
Repository systems handle the management of metadata and meta-models. They act as data store with a custom-defined and dynamically adaptable system catalogue. This feature finds a useful application in systems such as process engines, collaborative and information systems, CASE tools and transformation engines, in which custom-defined catalogues are ...

Guidelines and metadata model for a repository of volcanic samples
Abstract The volcanological community manages heterogeneous types of data acquired during research projects and monitoring activities of volcanoes. These data consist of both continuous and discrete measurements and observations, which are carried out by ground-based networks and remote sensing instruments, or during field surveys and ...

A focus groups study on data sharing and research data management
Data sharing can accelerate scientific discovery while increasing return on investment beyond the researcher or group that produced them. Data repositories enable data sharing and preservation over the long term, but little is known about scientists ...

Repository Metadata: Approaches and Challenges [PDF]
Many institutional repositories have pursued a mixed metadata environment, relying on description by multiple workflows. Strategies may include metadata converted from other systems, metadata elicited from the document creator or manager, and metadata created by library or repository staff. Additional editing or proofing may or may not occur. The mixed
