A pyrene-functionalized triazole-linked hexahomotrioxacalix[3]arene as a fluorescent chemosensor for Zn²⁺ ions [PDF]
A new pyrenyl appended hexahomotrioxacalix[3]arene L featuring 1,2,3-triazole linkers was synthesized as a fluorescent chemosensor for Zn²⁺ in mixed aqueous media. It exhibited high affinity toward Zn²⁺, and the monomer and excimer emission of the pyrene

Controlling molecular broadband-emission by optical confinement [PDF]
We investigate experimentally and theoretically the fluorescence emitted by molecular ensembles as well as spatially isolated, single molecules of an organic dye immobilized in a quasi-planar optical microresonator at room temperature.

Spectral Distortions in Metal-Enhanced Fluorescence [PDF]
In recent years our laboratory and others have demonstrated many examples and concepts in Metal-Enhanced Fluorescence1 (MEF), a surface plasmon phenomenon, which amplifies both fluorescence and luminescence signatures in the near-field, i.e. less than one wavelength of light away from a metallic object1.

Hybrid plasmonic photoreactors as visible light-mediated bactericides [PDF]
Photocatalytic compounds and complexes, such as tris(bipyridine)ruthenium(II), [Ru(bpy)3]2+, have recently attracted attention as light-mediated bactericides that can help to address the need for new antibacterial strategies.

Ultrahigh Enhancement of Electromagnetic Fields by Exciting Localized with Extended Surface Plasmons
Excitation of localized surface plasmons (LSPs) of metal nanoparticles (NPs) residing on a flat metal film has attracted great attentions recently due to the enhanced electromagnetic (EM) fields found to be higher than the case of NPs on a dielectric ...

Polarization control of metal-enhanced fluorescence in hybrid assemblies of photosynthetic complexes and gold nanorods [PDF]
Fluorescence imaging of hybrid nanostructures composed of a bacterial light-harvesting complex LH2 and Au nanorods with controlled coupling strength is employed to study the spectral dependence of the plasmon-induced fluorescence enhancement.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.
