Elastic–Plastic Modeling and Experimental Characterization of Granular Jamming Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Granular jamming enables rapid switching between soft and rigid mechanical states. Here, a reduced‐order elastic‐perfectly‐plastic beam framework captures pressure‐dependent loading, unloading, residual deformation, and hysteresis in jammed beams, while matching three‐point bending experiments across materials and geometries. The framework links design

Load Deformation Test of Metal Brackets : A Comparative Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect material and design (slot torque degree and wing type) had on the force and stress to permanently deform metal brackets.

Optoelectronic Synaptic Devices Using Molecular Telluride Phase‐Change Inks for Three‐Factor Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Optoelectronic synaptic devices based on solution‐processed molecular telluride GST‐225 phase‐change inks are demonstrated for three‐factor learning. A global optical signal broadcast through a silicon waveguide induces non‐volatile conductance updates exclusively in locally electrically flagged memristors.

Melanin's Role in Balancing Mechanical Strength and Reproductive Output in Environmentally Stressed Fungal Spores

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Melanin content directly controls fungal spore mechanical properties, with pigmented spores achieving rupture forces two orders of magnitude higher than hyaline spores. Environmental stress drives this quantity‐quality tradeoff; stressed species invest energy in melanin‐reinforced, mechanically superior thick‐walled, super‐hydrophobic spores, while ...

Ultra‐Thin Tow‐Based Discontinuous Composites—Material Overview and Aspirations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Tow‐based discontinuous composites made from ultra‐thin tapes offer outstanding in‐plane mechanical properties. This material, inspired by Nacre, has high volume fraction of tapes exceeding 90 % and allows for quasi‐isotropic material plates less than 100 micrometer in thickness.

Shear bond strength of metallic brackets: influence of saliva contamination [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Oral Science, 2009
To evaluate the influence of saliva contamination on shear bond strength and the bond failure pattern of 3 adhesive systems (Transbond XT, AdheSE and Xeno III) on orthodontic metallic brackets bonded to human enamel.Seventy-two permanent human molars were cut longitudinally in a mesiodistal direction, producing seventy-two specimens randomly divided ...

Role of the Recombination Zone in Organic Light‐Emitting Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the critical role of the recombination zone in organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs). We highlight that broadening the recombination zone in OLEDs based on emissive layers with balanced charge transport and high photoluminescence quantum yields provides a promising route toward achieving both long operational lifetime and high ...

Bonding Metal Brackets On Tooth Surfaces [PDF]

open access: yesDentistry, 2014
Objectives: To test the effect of different surface preparation methods on accurate bonding of orthodontic brackets on enamel, composite, and ceramic surfaces. In addition, we evaluated differences in bonding force and the adhesive remaining between precoated and non-precoated brackets after bonding on these surfaces.

Effects of different chlorhexidine pretreatments on adhesion of metal brackets in vitro [PDF]

open access: yesHead & Face Medicine, 2012
Abstract Objective To investigate the effect of chlorhexidine applications in various forms and concentrations on adhesion and failure modes of metal brackets in vitro. Material and methods Ninety bovine enamel specimens were allocated to six groups (n=15).
