Examples of the Superiority of Ionic Liquids and Deep Eutectic Solvents over Aqueous Solutions in Electrodeposition Processes

open access: yesChemEngineering
The current electrolytes used for metal electrodeposition mostly use aqueous solutions that limit the range and quality of possible coatings. Also, some of these solutions may contain toxic and corrosive chemicals.

Megasonic Enhanced Electrodeposition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A novel way of filling high aspect ratio vertical interconnection (microvias) with an aspect ratio of >2:1 is presented. High frequency acoustic streaming at megasonic frequencies enables the decrease of the Nernst-diffusion layer down to the sub-micron ...

Atomic Layer Deposition in Transistors and Monolithic 3D Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Transistors are fundamental building blocks of modern electronics. This review summarizes recent progress in atomic layer deposition (ALD) for the synthesis of two‐dimensional (2D) metal oxides and transition‐metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), with particular emphasis on their enabling role in monolithic three‐dimensional (M3D) integration for next ...

Ordered zinc electrodeposition from single-crystal units to polycrystalline stacking within solid-electrolyte interphase in battery anodes

open access: yesNature Communications
Controlling Zinc (Zn) nucleation and subsequent crystal growth are critical for long lifespan aqueous zinc metal batteries. However, the concurrent side reactions and unstable solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) formations impedes the continuous Zn metal ...

Initial Study of Feedstock Material Compositions for 3D Printing of Hybrid Metal–Polymer Components via Electrodeposition and Photopolymerization in an Electroplating Bath Environment

open access: yesMolecules
Hybrid metal–polymer components are used in many industries, such as in aerospace, automotives, and electronics, due to the possibility of reducing the weight of the final part while maintaining mechanical properties comparable to components made ...

MXene/PEDOT Functional Coatings on Flexible Microelectrode Arrays for Multianalyte In Vivo Neurochemical Sensing and Electrophysiology

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A MXene/PEDOT coating enables multimodal functionality and dual‐analyte detection of dopamine and serotonin in flexible microelectrode arrays while enhancing electrophysiological recording quality. The anti‐fouling, low‐impedance interface overcomes key limitations of conventional coatings, providing a robust and versatile platform to investigate the ...

Formation of Quasi‐Decoupling Interface on Li‐Metal Anodes in High Donor Electrolyte

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Li‐metal anode (LMA) is stabilized by introducing Li2Te2 as an electrolyte additive for Li‐metal batteries. Upon contact with Li, Li2Te2 spontaneously converts to Li2Te, which electronically isolates Li from dimethyl sulfoxide due to its large bandgap and minimal Bader charge transfer.

Regulating the Solvation Structure of Electrolyte via Dual–Salt Combination for Stable Potassium Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, 2023
Batteries using potassium metal (K‐metal) anode are considered a new type of low‐cost and high‐energy storage device. However, the thermodynamic instability of the K‐metal anode in organic electrolyte solutions causes uncontrolled dendritic growth and ...

Understanding the Effects of Conductive Polymer Electrode Coating on Recorded Neural Signals

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Conductive polymer coatings are widely explored to improve the quality of signals recorded with chronically implanted neural electrodes, offering enhanced biocompatibility along with reduced electrode impedance. Combining computational modelling and data from PEDOT:PTS coated and PtIr electrodes in rats, we show that improvements in signal quality with
