AbstractNanoporous metal foams (NMFs) have been a long sought‐after class of materials in the quest for high‐surface‐area conductive and catalytic materials. Herein we present an overview of newly developed synthetic strategies for producing NMFs along with an in‐depth discussion of combustion synthesis as a versatile and scalable approach for the ...

A comparison of composite metal foam's properties and other comparable metal foams
Materials Letters, 2009Abstract New closed cell composite metal foams are processed using casting and powder metallurgy (PM) techniques. The foam is comprised of steel hollow spheres packed into a random loose arrangement, with the interstitial spaces between spheres occupied with a solid metallic matrix.

Abstract Cellular or foam structures can be described by means of two broader cases: foams in which the pores are all connected to each other and with the environment (open-pore foams) and foams in which every single pore is completely enclosed by the matrix (closed-pore foams).

Transport properties of real metallic foams
Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2010Three dimensional samples of three different foams are obtained by microtomography. The macroscopic conductivity and permeability of these foams are calculated by three different numerical techniques based on either a finite volume discretization or Lattice Boltzmann algorithm.
