Scripta Materialia, 2006
As recently demonstrated, amorphous metal foams are highly ductile in compression, and thus offer attractive compromises in mechanical and physical properties between crystalline metallic and ceramic foams. Challenges associated with fabrication of amorphous metal foams are critically assessed in the context of current and future processing methods ...

Acta Materialia, 2010
Abstract Expansion and contraction phenomena during solidification of liquid metal foams were studied. Such foams were processed by mixing metal powders with TiH2 powder and compacting the resulting blends, after which the compacted powders were melted. The subsequent foaming process was monitored in situ by X-ray radioscopy.

A Study on Welding of Porous Metals and Metallic Foams
Advanced Engineering Materials, 2023Metal foams are lightweight materials with exceptional impact energy absorption and unique thermal properties. Integrating these novel materials into large structural components requires developing appropriate welding techniques that preserve their bulk performance.

Rheology and Foaming Characteristics of Melt for Metal Foam
Materials Science Forum, 2005Metal foam was produced by the Melt Foaming Method. In this foaming process, the surface tension and the viscosity of molten Al (recycled waste Al) and Mg alloy (Az91) that were measured respectively by the ring method and the rotational method are the most important two factors.

Fracture of Metal Foams: A Discrete Modelling Approach
2008A discrete model based on two-dimensional Voronoi tessellation has been used to study damage and fracture in open-cell metal foams. The present study focuses on elastic-fracture behaviour of the foam. A competition mechanism among various damaging struts leading to damage localization and formation of a fracture band has been observed.

The Simulation of Metal Foams Forming Processes
Key Engineering Materials, 2011Metal foams are two-phase compounds of a gas and a solid with several interesting physical and mechanical properties; in particular they have very low density, good rigidity, excellent energy absorption, high vibration damping. At now, the final shape of foamed devices is directly obtained through the foaming process itself and no further shaping steps
