Hydrodynamic and mass transfer efficiency of ceramic foam packing applied to distillation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In addition to a high void volume and specific area, solid foams possess other properties (low density, good thermal, mechanical, electrical, and acoustical behaviour) that make them attractive for applications such as heat exchangers and reformers ...

An Efficient Numerical Method for Pressure Loss Investigation in an Oil/Air Separator with Metal Foam in an Aero-Engine

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
An efficient method of simulating pressure loss in a separator with metal foam is reported. In this method, a metal foam is modeled as a porous media having homogenized permeability and inertial resistance coefficients.

Thermal and exergetic analysis of Metal Foam-enhanced Cascaded Thermal Energy Storage (MF-CTES) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Metal Foam-enhanced Cascaded Thermal Energy Storage (MF-CTES) has been proposed to solve the problem of poor heat transfer during heat exchange process, which is caused by unavoidable decrease of temperature differences. This paper conducts a theoretical

Study on Inhibition Characteristics of Composite Structure with High-Temperature Heat Pipe and Metal Foam on Gas Explosion

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
The hazards caused by gas explosion are mainly due to high temperatures and shock waves. It is of great practical significance to explore a device that can restrain these two hazards at the same time.

Calculation Method of Specific Surface Area of Foam Metal Based on an Ideal Tetradecahedron Model for Lithium Ion Battery

open access: yesInternational Journal of Photoenergy, 2020
A novel calculation method of specific surface area of tetrahedral foam metal is established. The expressions of the two basic parameters of the foam metal with respect to porosity and pore size are derived by using the geometrical relationship of this ...

Compressive characteristics of metal matrix syntactic foams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The compressive behaviour of eight different metal matrix syntactic foams (MMSFs) are investigated and presented. The results showed that the engineering factors as chemical compositions of the matrix material, the size of the microballoons, the ...

Amorphous metallic foam [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Physics Letters, 2003
The bulk glass forming alloy Pd43Ni10Cu27P20 is processed into a low-density amorphous metallic foam. Pd43Ni10Cu27P20 is mixed with hydrated B2O3, which releases gas at elevated temperature and/or low pressure. Very homogeneous foams are achieved due to the high viscosity of the alloy even at its liquidus temperature.
