Effect of Post Heat Treatment on the Microstructure and Microhardness of Friction Stir Processed NiAl Bronze (NAB) Alloy

open access: yesMetals, 2015
NiAl bronze (NAB) alloy is prepared by using friction stir processing (FSP) technique at a tool rotation rate of 1200 rpm and a traverse speed of 150 mm/min. A post heat treatment is performed at the temperature of 675 °C. The effect of heat treatment on

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

The benefit of the glassy state of reinforcing particles for the densification of aluminum matrix composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
In metallic glass-reinforced metal matrix composites, the glassy phase can serve a dual purpose: (i) it can behave as soft binder and porosity remover during consolidation; and (ii) it can act as the hard reinforcing phase after densification.

Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Alumina: Effects of Scanning Strategies on External and Internal Defects

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates how scanning strategies affect pure alumina in laser powder bed fusion. Linear 45° scanning yields uniform surfaces but high porosity, while the island‐concentric strategy provides higher density with through‐holes favorable for infiltration. Findings highlight pathways toward optimizing defect‐free alumina parts.

Confining iodide migration with quantified barrier for durable perovskite solar cells

open access: yesNature Communications
The migration of iodide ions out of the perovskite film degrades charge transport and electrode layers, reducing the long-term stability of perovskite solar cells.

Abnormal grain growth in randomly-oriented fine grains in an Al–Mg–Sc–Zr alloy processed by laser-powder-bed-fusion

open access: yesMaterials Research Letters
In this work, we report a counter-intuitive activation of abnormal grain growth (AGG) in randomly-oriented fine grains (FGs) in an L-PBF Al–Mg–Sc–Zr alloy, which is unlikely from perspectives of curvature-driven grain growth, crystallographic texture or ...

Shear lag models for discontinuous composites: fibre end stresses and weak interface layers

open access: yes, 1999
A new shear lag (SL) type model for stress transfer in a composite with cylindrical fibres is derived. It accounts for fibre end stresses in an approximate yet realistic manner, and leads to a new formula for predicting the Young’s modulus of the ...
