Surface flashovers on metal-oxide varistor blocks

open access: yesICSD'98. Proceedings of the 1998 IEEE 6th International Conference on Conduction and Breakdown in Solid Dielectrics (Cat. No.98CH36132), 2002
Extensive studies have been made of surface flashovers on varistor blocks using multipulse (MP currents which simulate multiple stroke lightning ground flashes. The MP results are compared with those obtained with single-pulse (SP) currents and with high temporary overvoltages (TOV) at 50Hz. The blocks used were mostly of 5kA rating as commonly used in

Simple Model of Metal Oxide Varistor for Pspice Simulation

IEEE Transactions on Computer-Aided Design of Integrated Circuits and Systems, 2004
Metal oxide varistors (MOVs) are commonly used to suppress transients in many applications, such as industrial process measurement and control instrumentation, when exposed to electromagnetic interference. Varistors symmetrical, sharp breakdown characteristics enable them to provide transient suppression performance.

Recycling zinc oxide varistor blocks for electro‐active silicone composites

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Ceramic Technology, 2017
The recycling process toward the elimination of varistor wastes into new electro-active silicon composites has been investigated. We studied the dependence of the E-J characteristics on the aggregate content in the polymer matrix.

A statistical analysis of metal oxide varistor current under distorted supply voltage conditions

open access: yes, 2014
: Leakage current monitoring is still relied upon when on-site condition assessment or stability analysis of metal oxide varistors is to be conducted. The non-availability of adequate testing equipment, capable of directly measuring resistive component ...

Metal Oxide Varistor Design Optimization and Main Breaker Branch Switch Control of a Progressively Switched Hybrid DC Circuit Breaker

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2022
In this work, metal oxide varistor (MOV) design optimization and switching control in the main circuit breaker (MCB) branch of a progressively switched hybrid DC circuit breaker (DCCB) is presented. A progressively switched hybrid DCCB can achieve faster
