Design considerations of series type hybrid circuit breaker (S‐HCB)

open access: yesIET Power Electronics
The series‐type direct current (DC) hybrid circuit breaker (S‐HCB) concept was previously reported to offer better performance than solid‐state circuit breakers (SSCB) and hybrid circuit breakers (HCB).

Solid-State Circuit Breaker Topology Design Methodology for Smart DC Distribution Grids with Millisecond-Level Self-Healing Capability

open access: yesEnergies
To address the challenges of prolonged current isolation times and high dependency on varistors in traditional flexible short-circuit fault isolation schemes for DC systems, this paper proposes a rapid fault isolation circuit design based on an adaptive ...

Comparison of Surge Voltage Reduction and Economic Efficiency of DC SSCBs According to MOV and RCD Snubber Combination

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of the Industrial Electronics Society
Metal oxide varistor (MOV) is a nonlinear resistive element whose resistance decreases rapidly when the applied voltage exceeds a threshold value. A dc solid-state circuit breaker (SSCB) uses MOVs or MOV with resistor-capacitor-diode (RCD) snubber ...

DC-SSCB Snubber for Electric Propulsion Ships With Effective Surge Voltage Reduction and Fast Dissipation of Fault Current Energy

open access: yesIEEE Access
This paper proposes a snubber circuit for SSCB that performs voltage clamping operation in two stages to reduce surge voltage. The surge voltage is suppressed in the first stage using a MOV with low operating initiation and clamping voltages.

Review and Analysis of Voltage Clamping Circuits With Low Overvoltage Ratios for DC Circuit Breakers

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of the Industrial Electronics Society
Voltage clamping circuits are critical components in most direct-current circuit breakers (dcCBs) to achieve ultrafast dc fault interruptions and an extended lifetime.
