Superior performing nano‐enabled metal oxide varistors [PDF]
AbstractCommercial metal oxide varistor devices are subject to nonuniformity, defects and coarse grain size, low working voltage, high leakage current, and mechanical cracking issues. This work tempted to make use of nanopowders and alternative sintering processes to achieve uniform microstructure and superior varistor performance.

Mechanism and suppression of breaking overvoltage of DC circuit breakers
Abstract The occurrence of breaking overvoltage in a DC circuit breaker (DCCB) poses a potential threat to the safe operation of a DC grid. Based on the structure of the ±10 kV three‐terminal DC distribution network, this paper sets up the medium‐voltage DCCB and formulates a fault protection strategy.

Abstract Metal oxide varistors (MOVs) are extensively employed in DC circuit breakers (DCCBs) to suppress overvoltage, dissipate energy and build up voltage after interruption. Despite their widespread use, the performance of MOVs under short‐time, double energy absorption conditions is not well understood, posing a challenge to their application in ...

Back Flash Overvoltage Damages All DC/AC Converters in Photovoltaic Systems
This research addresses real faults in photovoltaic (PV) systems in Cuba, as these faults result in damage to all converters, whether in operation or not, when atmospheric discharge strikes nearby.

Development of a Power Factor Corrected High Current Supercapacitor Charger for a Surge Resistant UPS [PDF]
The Uninterrupted Power Supplies (UPSs) provide short term power back up to electrical loads when the mains power fail. Usually UPSs employ battery packs as the energy storage device.

Interaction of nanostructured metal overlayers with oxide surfaces
Interactions between metals and oxides are key factors to determine the performance of metal/oxide heterojunctions, particularly in nanotechnology, where the miniaturization of devices down to the nanoregime leads to an enormous increase in the density ...

Enhanced Radiation-Induced Narrow Channel Effects in Commercial 0.18 μm Bulk Technology [PDF]
Total ionizing dose effects are investigated in input/output transistors that are fabricated by using a commercial 0.18 μm bulk process. An enhanced radiation-induced narrow channel effect is demonstrated in N-type metal-oxide semiconductor (NMOS) and P ...

Stability of Metal-Oxide Varistor Characteristics in Exploitation Conditions
Wide-spread use of metal–oxide varistors for non-linearity over-voltage protection results in a variety of possible working conditions. It is therefore essential to have a thorough insight into their reliability in various exploitation environments.

MOV型SPD在运行时,一些因素会使MOV启动后的电流过大,电流发热量超出MOV热容量就会使SPD失效。国家标准中热稳定实验考查的就是MOV对于这种热量累积的耐受程度。对国家标准中关于MOV(Metal Oxide Varistor)型SPD(Surge Protective Device)的热稳定性判断条件进行试验和分析,对比了直流和交流电压两种情况下的热量累积并设计试验。把直流电和交流电热累积统一到"热阻"的概念,试验表明,直流电造成的SPD发热量比交流电造成的SPD发热量大10%。
