An Adaptive Pulse‐Width Driving Method for Ultra‐Fast Mechanical Switches in DC Interruption Applications

open access: yesIET Electric Power Applications, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
This study introduces an adaptive speed control strategy for fast mechanical switches using an IGBT fully controlled driving circuit. The approach combines PWM‐based current shaping with an intelligent secant algorithm to regulate opening speed in real time without hardware changes.

Reliable directional relaying for T-Connected Series-Compensated transmission lines

open access: yesScientific Reports
This article introduces an extensive directional relaying algorithm designed for series-compensated transmission lines. The proposed algorithm relies on observing the locus of the calculated impedance of the change of the positive-sequence circuit.

Comparative Assessment of Lightning Overvoltages at Transformer and Hydrogenerator Terminals Under Nonideal Station‐Side Metal‐Oxide Arrester Conditions

open access: yesIET Electric Power Applications, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
This study comparatively assesses lightning‐overvoltage propagation to the transformer high‐voltage terminal and hydrogenerator busbar of a hydropower plant under prescribed lightning‐current injection and selected nonideal conditions of a station‐side metal‐oxide arrester.

Accurate Fault Current Phasor Estimation in Series‐Compensated Transmission Lines Using Improved Particle Swarm Optimisation

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission &Distribution, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
A new evolutionary search algorithm based on improved Particle Swarm Optimisation (PSO) is introduced in this study to estimate the phasor. The performance has been evaluated through extensive simulations considering transient components, harmonics, and frequency changes in noiseless and noisy conditions.

The Microstructural Location of the Intergranular Metal Oxide Phase in a Zinc Oxide Varistor [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
High resolution electron microscopy of a commercial ZnO based varistor reveals that the Bi-rich intergranular phase is found at all three and four grain junctions and that the majority of ZnO grains are not surrounded by an oxide barrier film as hitherto

Porosity through reduction in metal oxides [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Routes to porous materials with nanoscale dimensions have been investigated. In the first example presented, porous manganese oxide has been prepared by leaching Ni metal from a nickel-manganese oxide precursor via reduction.

A Self‐powered LVDC Solid‐State Circuit Breaker Using Low Voltage Step‐Up DC/DC Converter

open access: yesIET Power Electronics, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
This paper introduces a self‐powered LVDC solid‐state circuit breaker that harvests the forward drop of a Schottky diode via an ultra‐low voltage step‐up converter, eliminating the need for an auxiliary supply. A parallel MOSFET‐SCR conduction path and a Hall‐effect‐based electromagnet enable autonomous fault detection and tripping for both fast and ...

Electron paramagnetic resonance study of ZnO varistor material

open access: yes, 2014
Matsuoka-type zinc oxide (ZnO) varistor material was synthesized using a conventional solid-state reaction method. X-band electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) data revealed that Mn ions substitute in the ZnO lattice with a 2+ paramagnetic state. Co ions

A Dynamic Behavior Improvement Scheme for an Offshore Wind Farm Through a Multi‐Functional Bridge‐Type Series Capacitor

open access: yesIET Renewable Power Generation, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
This paper tries to improve dynamic behavior of a wind farm through a multi‐functional bridge‐type series capacitor which can be effective in (1) resonance suppression, (2) connectivity improvement, and (3) LVRT improvement. ABSTRACT The sub‐synchronous oscillations/resonances in renewable resources specially in type‐4 permanent magnet synchronous ...
