The Metallicity Dependence of PAH Emission in Galaxies. I. Insights from Deep Radial Spitzer Spectroscopy

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We use deep Spitzer mid-infrared spectroscopic maps of radial strips across three nearby galaxies with well-studied metallicity gradients (M101, NGC 628, and NGC 2403) to explore the physical origins of the observed deficit of polycyclic aromatic ...

Using multi-task learning to determine gas-phase metallicity of star-forming galaxies

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Aims. This study aimed to improve the estimation of the gas-phase metallicity of star-forming galaxies by using a multi-task learning approach that simultaneously performs gas-phase metallicity estimation and spectral classification of galaxies. Methods.

Exploring Dipolar Dynamics and Ionic Transport in Metal‐Organic Frameworks: Experimental and Theoretical Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the interplay of dipolar dynamics and ionic charge transport in MOF compounds is investigated. Synthesizing the novel structure CFA‐25 with integrated freely rotating dipolar groups, local and macroscopic effects, including interactions with Cs cations are explored.

On the Metallicity-Color Relations and Bimodal Color Distributions in Extragalactic Globular Cluster Systems

open access: yes, 2007
We perform a series of numerical experiments to study how the nonlinear metallicity--color relations predicted by different stellar population models affect the color distributions observed in extragalactic globular cluster systems.

Photoswitchable Conductive Metal–Organic Frameworks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A conductive material where the conductivity can be modulated remotely by irradiation with light is presented. It is based on films of conductive metal–organic framework type Cu3(HHTP)2 with embedded photochromic molecules such as azobenzene, diarylethene, spiropyran, and hexaarylbiimidazole in the pores.

Not Just Winds: Why Models Find That Binary Black Hole Formation Is Metallicity-dependent, while Binary Neutron Star Formation Is Not

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Both detailed and rapid population studies alike predict that binary black hole (BHBH) formation is orders of magnitude more efficient at low metallicity than high metallicity, while binary neutron star (NSNS) formation remains mostly flat with ...

Oxygen Metallicity Determinations from Optical Emission Lines in Early-type Galaxies

open access: yes, 2009
We measured the oxygen abundances of the warm (T$\sim 10^{4}K$) phase of gas in seven early-type galaxies through long-slit observations. A template spectra was constructed from galaxies void of warm gas and subtracted from the emission-line galaxies ...

Advancing Electronic Application of Coordination Solids: Enhancing Electron Transport and Device Integration via Surface‐Mounted MOFs (SURMOFs)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The layer‐by‐layer (LbL) assembly of coordination solids, enabled by the surface‐mounted metal‐organic framework (SURMOF) platform, is on the cusp of generating the organic counterpart of the epitaxy of inorganics. The programmable and sequential SURMOF protocol, optimized by machine learning (ML), is suited for accessing high‐quality thin films of ...

The stellar metallicity distribution in intermediate latitude fields with BATC and SDSS data

open access: yes, 2011
Based on the Beijing-Arizona-Taiwan-Connecticut (BATC) and Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) photometric data, we adopt SEDs fitting Method to evaluate the metallicity distribution for \sim40,000 main-sequence stars in the Galaxy.
