Thermal histories of El Médano 300 (EM 300) and Northwest Africa 8155 (NWA 8155): Implications for the diversity of IAB‐ungrouped iron meteorites and their parent bodies

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract This study provides the first petrographic, crystallographic, and chemical comparison between El Médano 300 (EM 300) and Northwest Africa 8155 (NWA 8155), two particular IAB‐ungrouped iron meteorites. Both contain exceptionally large graphite nodules and “flowers”, providing unique insights into carbon behavior in metallic melts and cooling ...

Aging Effects on PTCR Ceramics: SEM and C‐AFM Analysis of Electrical Conductivity and Domain Structures

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Ceramic Technology, Volume 23, Issue 4, August 2026.
ABSTRACT This study examines the impact of aging on the electrical and structural properties of positive temperature coefficient of resistance (PTCR) ceramics. The presented study introduces a correlative scanning electron microscopy (SEM)/conductive atomic force microscopy (C‐AFM) approach enabling repeated, site‐specific characterization of ...

Extraction replica method from thinned transmission electron microscopy samples without floating off carbon films: A case study on reduced activation steel

open access: yesJournal of Microscopy, Volume 303, Issue 1, Page 88-100, July 2026.
Abstract A recipe for producing carbon extraction replicas from twin‐jet electropolished disks is described. This technique allows tracking the analysed region with respect to the bulk sample. An example use of the method as applied to a reduced activation ferritic martensitic (RAFM) steel, ‘UK‐RAFM’, is reported.

Effects of mold parameters on microscopic properties of cross wedge rolling (CWR) GH4169 alloy shaft parts

open access: yesMetalurgija, 2019
Shaft grain size and uniformity play an important role in improving its mechanical properties. Using DEFORM-3D finite element software, the effects of broadening angle and forming angle on the micro performance of the GH4169 alloy shaft parts were ...

Reduction of Oxide Inclusions During the High‐Frequency Welding of Steel via a Nonthermal Ar/H2 Plasma Jet

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 12, 17 June 2026.
High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...

Effect of Laser Deoxidation on Adhesive‐Bonded Aluminum in an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 12, 17 June 2026.
This study investigates laser ablation of aluminum under oxygen‐free conditions. The goal is to produce oxide‐free substrates that enable improved adhesive bonding with epoxy. Optimized laser parameters (90% overlap, 300 µJ) combined with oxide‐free substrates result in the highest tensile strength of the adhesive bond.

Experimental analysis of fatigue behaviour and metallographic characterization of Sc-Al alloy coupons [PDF]

open access: yes
Materials and different technologies employed in the aerospace field play an important role. Aerospace materials can be described as structural materials that support the loads exerted on the aircraft throughout flight operations.
