Metallographic Analysis of Filiform Corrosion

Solid State Phenomena, 2017
The surface line type defects on the can twist-off lids from lacquered tinplate material have been analyzed. The analyzed defects manifested themselves like the lines bulged above the surrounding surface. They were aligned roughly perpendicular to the lid circumference; they were mostly arranged on the lower part of lid circumference edge.

Metallographic analysis of laser soldered chip resistors

33rd International Spring Seminar on Electronics Technology, ISSE 2010, 2010
During the last decade laser material processing has been used in more and more fields of electronics technology. Among these techniques laser soldering processes showed great improvements and they offer several advantages mainly in terms of localized heating, rapid rise and fall in temperature, non-contact and easily automated process.

The Metallographer's Role in Damage Analysis

Practical Metallography, 2011
Abstract The metallographer's role is of extraordinary importance when clarifying cases of damage. This statement is documented by means of an example of corrosion damage on a brewery pipe. Several different methods have been applied in order to provide for a final result, such as emission spectroscopy analysis ...

Strain analysis in machining using metallographic methods

Metallography, 1987
Abstract Strain patterns in 4340 steel chips created during turning at speeds between 36 and 440 m/min (119 and 1442 sfpm) are examined metallographically. A new method, based on the grain elongation orientation in the chip, is developed for quantification of local strains created during plane strain deformation in the primary and secondary ...

Metallographic Analysis of ECAP Processed Selected Magnesium Alloys

Materials Science Forum, 2014
Magnesium alloys has been used for a wide variety of applications, namely from the reason of their low density and high strength–to–weight ratio. The properties of magnesium alloys are connected with microstructure that is influenced by metallurgical and technological aspects.

Metallographic Analysis of Corrosion Failures

1978
The proper analysis of a component failure can provide valuable assistance in determining the validity of a product design. Errors in selection and design as well as materials defects and shortcomings in processing can frequently be revealed. These problems can often be detected in prototype testing or early in production, which results in substantial ...
